Air Force Officer Faces Vandalism Charges

By ROBERT WELLER
Associated Press Writer

August 23, 2005, 10:15 PM EDT

DENVER -- An Air Force officer accused of vandalizing bumper stickers supporting President Bush has been reassigned to a non-supervisory position, a military spokesman said Tuesday.

Lt. Col. Alexis Fecteau faces criminal mischief charges for allegedly blacking out Bush bumper stickers on cars at Denver International Airport and then spray-painting an expletive over them.

8. Yes, he may De-face bumper stickers but he
doesn't present TWO-faces like the spring-butt General Officers that were scrapped from the bottom of the barrel after the Pentagon's several Rumsfelian purges.

In fact Ole' Tommy Franks LIED for Bush throughout the 04' campaign by stating unequivocally that "we were NOT sure that Bin Laden was in the Tora Bora area AT ALL." Franks has no credibility in my view and should have been demoted to Private before he retired. BTW honorable serving Privates, please accept my regrets for sloughing Franks off on you? ;)

4. I have to say that a vandal is a vandal
How would you have liked if it were Kerry stickers he defaced?
Like or dislike whomever you choose, but what he did is vandalism and against the law.
he defaced private property.
plain and simple.

12. OK...
So, did you like it when it occurred? Do two wrongs now make a right?
The point is, what he did is vandalism. I can not support or condone a vandal, or any act of vandalism.

16. If Kerry had started an illegal
and brutal war on a country that was no threat to us, had lied about to boot, had approved of torture techniques forbidden by the Geneva Conventions, killed social programs, given tax-breaks to the rich, hired for his cabinet, a bunch of former pardoned felons, stolen an election, amongst other things, I would help him to take care of those bumper stickers and consider it an act of patriotism.

21. There is enough information
available now to the average citizen that this war was based on lies. That tens of thousands of innocent human beings have DIED and untold numbers have been maimed for life, that a country and the property of its citizens has been wantonly destroyed, that so much harm has been done it may be impossible to ever fix it.

Anyone still supporting all of this, is a collaborator, imo. Personally I would rather see some indictments and convictions. Writing on bumper stickers that support these crimes is no way good enough to achieve the desired end of getting justice. But I can well understand the sentiment of a soldier who feels compelled to send a benign message to the willfully blind.

So, no, to answer your question, while this minor demonstration against those who still support this war may not accomplish the desired end, it is way more justifiable than the killing and destruction that has been perpetrated on innocent people.

And if there is no consequence for all of that, the example to the rest of us is 'lie, cheat, do whatever you want to, to get what you want'. So, destroying the message on a bumper sticker is fine by me, until we get a better example of exactly what 'means' are acceptable to justify what 'end'.

If destroying property is an issue, then let Congress say so. Until then, the message is 'we have a right to destroy whatever we wish to, because the end will justify the means'. Maybe the soldier got that message from his CIC?

9. Unfortunately, his career is now over.
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 11:14 PM by kestrel91316
There is no way he will ever make it past LtCol. The USAF only wants PERFECTION in its higher officers. Flaws in either the officers (or in my dad's case their spouse) are not compatible with high leadership.

He may as well submit his resignation papers right now.
This is sad. We need people who oppose Bush in our military.

10. That might have been his point. Or maybe he didn't
want to get sent somewhere he didn't want to go. This is a high-ranking man with the balls to call them as he saw them. Kudos to him!

to me. As the child psychologist would say, ' a plea for help.' I think he had big conflicts about his chosen career...$500 dollars please. Psychotherapy isn't free.

19. IMO it's not unfortunate ...
Beyond perfection in higher officers (Full Bird and General Ranking Officers), they want POLITICIANS. There are a handful of excellent officers at these higher ranks, but unfortunately you MUST, in these trying days, pledge your loyalty to Rumsfeld and his programs, first and foremost. A large number of honorable General Officers within all services choose to resign.

And honesty, retiring at an O5, LTC isn't too shabby. You can now get out and look for that second career with a decent retirement to hold you over until that is accomplished.

I don't get teary eyed and despise war. But I would not have earned my Masters Degree if it wasn't for the VEAP program that I used after my active duty army service.

If your leaders genuinely care about the supply and general welfare of the troops and, most important, employ them wisely, then "Every day in the Army CAN be like Sunday on the Farm." My Dad's (Ret., US Army, Combat Engineer) favorite saying.

Retiring at an LTC is GOOD and I would hope this man has no regrets. :-)

13. I say we get this man a seat in the senate!
Not only would he be a dissenting voice on Bush's war, but he could use a little of the vandalism magic on some of the bills that are getting the rubber stamp of approval - you know, like drilling in ANWR or the bankruptcy bill. This guy could become the most valuable guy in DC!:smoke:
