Ann Wright, camp coordinator, attended a meeting at the County
Commissioners' offices held today. There have been requests by
some county residents who want a countywide ordinance to close
more roads in the area near the two Camp Caseys. If they are
successful in their request, it would affect parking at both camps.
No word yet on the outcome of the hearing.

"Commissioner Ray Meadows is pushing for the traffic restrictions on roads around the Bush ranch,
which is in his district. A protest on Prairie Chapel Road this month has drawn hundreds of protesters
from around the country, and Meadows said the traffic poses a safety hazard and a nuisance for
neighbors.

The restrictions against parking, stopping or standing would apply to Prairie Chapel, Hester, Old Beulah,
Morgan, Mattlage, Homestead, Quiet Valley, Canaan Church, Coryell City, Bohne, Spross, Castle Creek
and West Middle Bosque roads.

Ft. Qualls
The owner, Bill Johnson is an acquaintance of President Bush and
wanted to provide a clearing house for Bush supporters who come
to the area and wish to find out what's happening, how to organize, etc.
Johnson said this group is trying to serve God and country. They
plan a candlelight vigil Saturday next, in the evening, around the
large angel silhouette on the tent site. They are calling the area
Ft. Qualls, in honor of a fallen soldier whose father lives in
Temple, Texas and supports President Bush and the war effort.

1. The only traffic restrictions they need
are for the speeding assholes that go barreling through the roadside camp. Someone is going to get hurt.

Think about the problems that the cops have had to deal with. Larry, the crazy (drunk) gun shooting neighbor, the idiot who drove across the crosses by the side of the road and another wingnut who was speeding through the camp last week when I was there. I am sure there have been more. But my point is that the problems are being created by locals, not by any of Cindy's supporters. Restricting parking and traffic would be punishing the wrong people.

2. Not to excuse them at all, but the locals feel invaded.
I grew up in the country and I know how 'locals' can be. Don't completely blame them. This whole thing is a total disruption of their 'quiet little world' (emphasis on little, and aggressively so).

That said, it would be VERY interesting to know to what extent these events are being orchestrated by behind the scenes moves from the administration. Of course they are doing everything they can to nix this situation because it increasingly threatens to expose them for the lying hypocrites that they are.

Very likely some of who you are referring to as "locals" really aren't.

and it's a big burden on them he caused.
The protestors didn't choose for him to have a 5 week vacation!

When Bush goes back to work, they'll leave!

4. True, they may not be locals
My point was that the problem is not with the parking or with the throngs of people. The problem is with the wing nuts trying to run down and scare off Cindy's supporters.

I understand what you are saying about the locals feeling invaded. But you know what? That is just too damn bad. They are not living in a gated community and the protesters do have constitutional rights allowing them to be there.

Those protesters also are pumping a lot of money into the local economy. I was there for two days and the one restaurant had a line of people waiting for a table every time I went by. The one store was packed and the gas station was doing a booming business also. We were told there were no motel rooms available in Waco for the coming weekend. Yet I don't hear the locals complaining about the money the protesters are spending.

5. Oh, I hear you. I just don't want the real opposition to Cindy's message
to be tied to 'the locals'. Of course there are local people who are benefitting financially from this situation -- just as there are locals who oppose *'s policies. The land Camp Casey 2 is pitched on is proof of this.

I'm no going to defend the actions of some 'irate citizens' (whether local to Crawford or not), either. All I'm asking is that we not paint with too broad a brush.

Forecast for Skies Over Bush Ranch in Crawford: More Air
Pollution From New Coal Plants Nearby

WASHINGTON - August 24 - “The stars at night were big and bright, deep in the heart of
Texas…until the coal plants came to town and turned the skies brown, deep in the heart of
Texas.”

“The President used to cut down brush and ride his bike, deep in the heart of Texas… until
the particles fell down and turned his lungs brown, deep in the heart of Texas.”

Residents of nearby Riesel traveled to Crawford today to warn President Bush that his
health, and the health of other Texans, will be affected by six new coal-fired power plants
proposed for Central Texas. One of the proposed new plants would be located in Riesel,
only 30 miles from the Bush ranch.
