Gee, how can we tell whether we're winning? Bush and Cheney, after each escalation of violence resulting in the deaths of numerous Americans, always say that this is a sign things are going well! We were told -- it will be over when Baghdad is taken; when Uday and Qusah and dead; when Saddam is captured; when elections are held; when a Constitution is created, etc etc etc -- the hallmark is changing even as rapidly as the justifications for it.

I hate to say it, but pulling out now is the smartest thing that can be done in the American interest, because EVENTUALLY that is going to have to happen, and the fewer Americans dead over a stupid mistake and a wacko policy, the better. Iraq is going to melt down whether we are there or not. Bush ignored every principle of history by taking on this stupid war, and the result will only be disaster and death.
