I nominated Cindy for the JFK Profile In Courage Award. You can, too.
Below is a link to the information about how to nominate her. Note that it says "...Ordinarily, the award will be made to living Americans who are or were elected officials." In my letter, I addressed that issue by suggesting that we're living in extraordinary times and she is an extraordinary woman.

I'm sending in the nomination via snail mail because the email address seems to be inoperative. Besides, this calls for a "real" letter, in my opinion.

Please help keep this thread kicked.

1. My nomination of Cindy for the JFK Profile In Courage Award
I nominate Cindy Sheehan for the JFK Profile In Courage award. Cindy Sheehan has stood up to the lies President Bush has told the American people. Her son died in an illegal immoral war. President Bush invaded a country that never attacked us. That makes him a war criminal. Cindy Sheehan spoke out and told the truth.

5. Here's my nomination for Cindy
I would like to nominate Cindy Sheehan for John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award.

Ms Sheehan has almost single-handedly revived the peace movement in this country. In a time when many people choose not to get involved because they do not believe they can make a difference, she has shown that individuals, with enough determination and courage, can bring about change.

10. Great idea! this should be on the FRONT page!
The elected requirement seems to be a real sticking point, but with enough letters comparing her to Rosa Parks, the anonymous man in Tianemenn Square, et.al; we could push for the committee to consider an individual elected by their conscience and their will to do the right thing.

let's make it overwhelming.

13. Uh, guys?
According to the site, a nominee has to be an elected official. I don't think Cindy qualifies, does she? I mean, I'd love to see her get the award, too, but rules are rules.

14. "Ordinarily" being the key word, the implication is that non-elected...
...officials could also be considered.

20. Nomination: Casey and Cindy Sheehan
Casey Sheehan for responding to a call to defend America. Cindy Sheehan for her battle to make the truth known. Her Son Casey Sheehan was killed responding to a false alarm of WMD's in Iraq.

21. I like how you frame it...
If firefighters were killed in the line of duty, while responding to either a false alarm or a case of arson, the perpetrator would be held criminally liable.

Bush needs to answer for his crimes by more than mere impeachment.

25. Do you think FDNY would talk to Jr. about the dangers of False Alarms?
It takes up resources that are needed for real emergencies. Not to mention that one day you may have to report a real emergency and no one will believe you. Then maybe read him The Little Boy Who Cried Wolf.

Maybe "Bush Lied" is too much for America to chew right now. Maybe Bush turned in a False Alarm is just the right size for the greater part of America. Bite size. Of course once it is established and accepted that Bush turned in a False Alarm. The natural progression is was this a malicious act or was it a mistake? Did Bush really see smoke in Iraq or did he just want to see the bright flashing lights and everyone scrambling at his say so. Did he just want to see our first foreign responders busting down the neighbors door and harassing him because his daddy has a private beef with him? Maybe even Call Guniesses. I think Bush has the Record for the Worlds Biggest False Alarm.

It's been very much a joke lately. But it would be nice if they recognized Cindy... Don't expect much from them.
(And yes, I realize Time intends it as the newsmaker of the year and not the nicest person of the year.)

32. Done, Nominated, Here's my letter.
Dear Committee Members,

I nominate Cindy Sheehan for the Profile in Courage Award. I realize she isn't an elected official but she has stepped in to act in the broad public interest, filling a void left by those who have been elected but who have failed to act. In fact, she risked more than a career. She risked everything - and hasn't flinched.

Did she offend powerful groups? Only the party and President who are in complete control of our national government. And she has been attacked unmercifully as a result.

Has she inspired Americans? Absolutely! Read the papers. Count the vigils.

This should be an easy vote.

Sincerely,

ohtransplant
