NPR covers for Bush again. |
|
This morning I listened to NPR’s news broadcast. One of the stories reported was about the 9/11 Commission’s report and how some of it will not be released to the public. I thought once again the Bush Administration shows its secret side. Then the NPR “reporter” went on to say that those parts of the report may not be made public for months, years, or even decades, and offered as a comparison, the report about the failed “Bay of Pigs” invasion of 1961 and how it didn’t become public knowledge until released in 1998. NPR seemed to be saying “don’t worry” because a precedent for this kind of secrecy had already been set. I thought “WTF?” How can NPR compare the two? The “Bay of Pigs” was a botched attempt to invade a sovereign nation to oust its leader (sound familiar?). 9/11 was an attack on Americans on American soil under what can most politely be described as “suspicious circumstances.” The "Bay of Pigs" report is no where near as important to the American people as the 9/11 report; if you want to avoid the kind of embarrassment endured in 1961 from recurring, keep the government from doing it again. But, we do need to know what happened on 9/11 so we can prevent it from happening again. And to hold accountable those responsible .
I was flummoxed by this report. Why does NPR want to make America weak?

the way this administration has never done about anything.

- it smells bad. NPR: what a loss. From neutral to partisan to ultra partisan. I just hate it when people who were raised to be rational select a comparison like this one or allow themselves to be used by a regime and against the people, in essence..

3. I felt the same thing when they reported on Hugo Chavez |
|
this afternoon. According to them, he's a raving power-hungry maniac, who is responsible for high gas prices.

Just like that pro-war Bush-supporter seen in this video: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4444867He attempted to make a connection between the high price of gas and Iraqi instability due to Saddam's regime.

they go ahead and flummox you.
I wouldn't trust but every third thing I heard on NPR.
Let me know when NPR starts talking impeachment for the administration, then I'll tune in again.

10. Good idea, let the oil industry completely support them. |
|
After all, NPR does a good enough job of supporting the oil industry's agenda.

We haven't given NPR "what for" for quite some time.
And lordy, but they deserve it.

8. The squeak you just heard was NPR reacting to their balls |

being squeezed yet again. I can trace their decidedly right turn to the day Bob Edwards was "replaced". Been downhill fast since then.

11. I gave up on NPR during the election |
|
They constantly painted Bush and Co. in a favorable light. They edit his speeches to make him sound coherent. Never gave any of the Dem. or Independents a fair shake. I've been listening to NPR since high school, I was disgusted. I only tune in for "Wait, wait don't tell me" now.

12. I know what you mean. I gave up on NPR during the 2000 election... |
|
The "top news story" would be about a Bush campaign appearance. NPR would present a soundbite, followed by thunderous applause. This was before I realized how the "audience" was so tenaciously pre-screened. I mean, any doofus can sound "presidential" under these circumstances...
"I promise to put... FOOD ON YOUR FAMILY!!!" --applauseapplauseapplauseapplauseapplauseapplauseapplauseapplauseapplause
Then the "report" would follow with something like:
And Joe Schmo, representative for "Gore for President," said that if elected, Al Gore would look for ways to increase crop yield..."

14. I heard that too. I wondered if someone had slipped something into my |
|
morning coffee ... then I remembered why I'd mostly given up on NPR. There are historical precedents for many amoral acts, but that doesn't mean we should repeat history.
