Is there any chance they will not shut Ellsworth Air Force Base?

We should hear anytime now, I believe.

2. That was one of his campaign issues
That he would have the President's ear more than Daschle, and would be able to prevent closure.

Last I heard he was considering bringing Daschle on board to fight the closure. Can I get an amen for irony?

4. Maybe it's a sign that he's considering joining Barbara Lee...

and Jim Leach and helping the Senate craft Barbara Lee's DSM inquiry in the Senate. Perhaps the administration is holding back letting Ellsworth off the hoof until he commits to them he won't be a part of that effort. If the admin doesn't give back Ellsworth, that would be the time to sign him up to join with his congressional colleague Jim Leach!

5. I just heard that he and Tim Johnson are desperately lobbying the
commission to save the base. On CNN's Lou Dobbs, he said we should find out on Friday. They talked about how the WH completely undercut Thune and how Thune has stopped raising $$$ for other Republicans.

The AF Base is the second largest employer in the state.
