Big day for rallies in Crawford

War opponents meeting by ranch; Bush backers uniting near downtown

By DAVID JACKSON / The Dallas Morning News

CRAWFORD, Texas – Both critics and backers of President Bush have plans for a big Saturday near the presidential ranch.

Iraq war opponent Cindy Sheehan said she expects to welcome hundreds today to the site she dubbed Camp Casey in honor of her son who died in Iraq.

....

In the meantime, a caravan of Bush supporters will complete their "You Don't Speak for Me, Cindy" tour with a demonstration near downtown Crawford. They described it as a "we support our troops and their mission" rally.

Local police are expecting crowds as big as 3,500 to 4,000 people but note that the two groups will be positioned away from each other. The Bush backers will be near downtown; the Bush opponents are out in the country nearer the ranch.

I just heard that it might actually get close to 7k people....

1. I think it's despicable that they are allowed to protest in downtown
while Cindy and crew were stuck in a drainage ditch until someone took sympathy on them.
That should be illegal.

2. But - thanks to the cousin of the dove-hunter - Cindy is closer to
the 'seat' of power - as in 'asshat in chief'.

5. CUT OUT THIS BS! I'm going to repeat once again, there are
not going to be confrontations nor any fights! As long as everyone pays attention and refuses to confront it will be a cakewalk for us here to support Cindy. Of course there are always the professional instigators but as I've said before, I'll say it again, there are many peacekeepers on the way that have been activists for a VERY LONG TIME.

THINK PEACE!
By the way, welcome to DU, (with reservations).

8. Thanks for the tepid welcome
the reason I mention confrontations is,back during week 1 a local neighbor fired off 2 rounds from his shotgun purportedly in the air but those pellets had to fall somewhere, then a couple of days later
anothe redneck drove his truck over the many crosses planted in the ground.Remember that??....When I heard up to 7k might show up at Crawford today I figure the worse,I'm a pessimist.Keep in mind, instigators relish opportunities like this to upset dare I say it
"a Peaceful Protest"...Anyway,thanks for the welcome

6. There weren't problems with the earlier pro-** group.
I heard they were sharing water, chatting, etc. But maybe this new lot is more rabid, I don't know.

9. Remember the 1st week Cindy protested
and a local neighbor fired off 2 rounds from his shotgun. The next night another redneck neighbor drove his truck/suv over rows of crosses? When I heard up to 7,000 War supporters we marching on Crawford I thought the worse, hell their's always instigators in the crowd and what an opportune time to attempt to crush Cindy's peaceful protest with a larger protest in favor of war...Thankfully no disturbances were reported.Hey I support Cindy from here in NYC along with a million new yorkers. Anyway, thanks for the input...

7. Hint: the poor spelling is always the tip-off...
...the content of the post is simply confirmation.

But it was a nice try...

10. T Town...sorry about the misspelled words
but the gist of my comment was right on...You didn't forget during the 1st week of Cindy's protest a neighbor fired off his shotgun supposedly in the air then the following night a redneck drove his truck/suv over a hundreds of crosses representing the dead...So when I heard up to 7,000 supporters of this mass murderer was marching on Camp Casey or to town
I always think the worse..BTW,it was very late for me when I posted so please excuse the spelling..I was tired and chose not to spell check...Thanks for the input....
