China, Russia, and Iran plotting against the US? Wow...

The ties that bind China, Russia and Iran
By Jephraim P Gundzik

The military implementation of the George W Bush administration's unilateralist foreign policy is creating monumental changes in the world's geostrategic alliances. The most significant of these changes is the formation of a new triangle comprised of China, Iran and Russia.

Growing ties between Moscow and Beijing in the past 18 months is an important geopolitical event that has gone practically unnoticed. China's premier, Wen Jiabao, visited Russia in September 2004. In October 2004, President Vladimir Putin visited China. During the October meeting, both China and Russia declared that Sino-Russian relations had reached "unparalleled heights". In addition to settling long-standing border issues, Moscow and Beijing agreed to hold joint military exercises in 2005. This marks the first large-scale military exercises between Russia and China since 1958.

The joint military exercises complement a rapidly growing arms trade between Moscow and Beijing. China is Russia's largest buyer of military equipment. In 2004, China was reported to have signed deals worth more than $2 billion for Russian arms. These included naval ships and submarines, missile systems and aircraft. According to the head of Russia's armed forces, Anatoliy Kvashnin, "our defense industrial complex is working for this country , supplying the latest models of arms and military equipment, which the Russian army does not have". Russia's relations with China are not limited to military trade. In the past five years, non-military trade between Russia and China has increased at an average annual rate of nearly 20%. Moscow and Beijing have targeted non-military trade to reach $60 billion by 2010, from $20 billion in 2004. One of the key components of commercial trade is Russian energy exports to China.

Bush is pissing every nation off and China is benefiting. The United States a SUPERPOWER? Not for long. We need a President who can get us out of the deep do-do we are headed for. Damn George Bush.. He's fucked up our country so bad.x(

While Bush embellishes about his "war" with Iraq, bigger fish are swimming in our cess pool and they are getting prepared. I think they are sending him a message.

9. there are several overlapping military alliances
BRIC is one, SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) is another. When they're all globbed together, the US will find itself standing alone with Europe neutral, Africa split half and half, and the entire rest of the world except for Australia and New Zealand in active military alliance. That much opposing force is overwhelming, unless the neocons have an entire Cold War -level parallel military using undisclosed radically advanced technologies stashed away somewhere. Even then it's questionable since most of the technological surprises haven't been all that impressive.

7. The only 2 measurements that we remain a superpower is
in our nuclear weapons and Navy. I think we have an edge with the AF, but not significant. Trouble is, our Navy, for the most part, relies on oil and I wonder how effective the Sunburn missle would be on our battlegroups. They are extremely potent and lethal missles.

Nuclear weapons are a double edge sword, too. We expose ourselves to the airborne contamination that using them would create.

Our arrogance and inability to get along with others will be our downfall. We have a bunch of religious wackos who are controlling our eductaional destiny. Stupidity and incompetence are in control.

This administration could not be more wrong for our country, given the way the world is evolving today.

10. Thanks...we have a significant edge in space, too.
That certainly is an important advantage that leverges our influence in the world.

Edited on Sat Aug-27-05 01:26 AM by Blue_Roses
it is being floundered by this administration. I wish we at DU would have more discussions about this sort of thing. It's really serious and in the meantime people are going "ho-hum"

I think Russia and China will not do anything drastic--yet. They know the history of our country and we have had some good presidents. That's why they are "riding" this out, HOWEVER, they are sending a strong signal to Bush that his cartel is no longer in charge of global "revamping" as I like to say when I want to totally re-decorate my living room.

My fear is that Bush being the arrogant, small-minded man he is will take this as threat and act more irrationally.

24. I gotta take your word for it.
I assume we have a significant edge, only because we've had a 45 year jump....but I really don't have much knowledge on our strategic position relative to the rest of the world.

6. There will be no attack of Iran.
With Iran in the Russian and Chinese sphere of influence, there's no way Chimpy is going to risk global war by attacking Iran. If he does attack, look for either Russia or China or both to back Chimpy down very, very quickly. If Chimpster uses nukes, we're fucked.

12. Where do Venezuela and Cuba factor in to this?
I'm sure they would ally with Satan himself to get a shot at the US.
Seems we need to be better neighbors with the rest of the world.

16. China is bankrolling us for more than oil
everytime I go to Walmart(the only store close to where I live--another story) the China logo is stamped on quite a bit. In fact, when I bought school supplies, I was so excited to see that the pencils were made in the USA...I yanked them up!

17. Cuba itself
is not very relevant (to this administration). Their expatriots are a source of votes and money, but that's about as much use Cuba or Cubans have for the republicans. Castro provides a thorn in the administration's ass, but it can be ignored for the most part.

Venezuela can't. It's the fourth largest source of US oil imports and is spending more militarily and has growing influence in the rest of Central and South America.

And the administration is proving itself so stupid in driving them into the arms of China. Through its belicosity and arrogance, it's allowing China to increase its influence globally.

Bush sure is a uniter - uniting the world against the US!

Venezuela enlists Iran to steer oil to China

Venezuela has enrolled Iran to help it accelerate a strategy to steer its oil exports to China and away from its traditional market of the US.

A team of traders from Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), the state-owned oil company, is to be trained in London by Iranian advisers in how to best place oil in Asian markets, according to industry sources.

25. I Don't Trust the Chinese
And neither should anybody else. They have one goal - to be a superpower bigger and better than the U.S. is now. And they'll do anything to achieve that goal. For example, did you know that a lot of the telecommunications equipment that's being sold to the Afghan government is from Huawei, a Chinese company? Huawei is notorious for stealing designs from companies they have partnerships with, like Cisco. They also are partially owned by the Chinese government. (Read "Chinese intelligence"). The Chinese already own at least one Internet backbone in the U.S. Not to mention that, if they call in all of the Treasury bills they've bought, the U.S. government will go tits-up.

Joss Whedon had it right in "Firefly", his short-lived TV series set in the future, where everyone was fluent in Mandarin and English.
