BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A hundred thousand Iraqis across the country marched on Friday in support of a maverick Shi'ite cleric opposed to a draft constitution that U.S.-backed government leaders say will deliver a brighter future.

5. Not entirely true, it was on NBC world news tonight

Campbell Brown was the anchor, I think it was the second story that also told of the failed Constitution committee. In fact, the images they showed had the protesters carrying Saddam banners. It was not a pretty sight.

10. what's the message here?
The protests are about the screwed Constitution that's solidifying the forces toward civil war.

I want this Constitution to succeed quickly, no protests, just unity. Then our boys can come home. Let's take the high road, and maybe even have some honor in our exit from Iraq in a way that even Libs and freepers can agree on.

The more Iraqi protests, Shiite against Sunni, Iraqi against America, whatever, it means we'll be there longer. What I saw with Saddam posters being waved is a very bad sign that this f*cking war is going to go on a whole lot longer -- that's the real deal. That's a lot more substantial than whether the MSM has the pictures of the protest or Bush's prop war-Mom in tears.

11. What's the message where?

This isn't about the Constitution or anything other than different factions wanting power. They aren't going to be constrained by a Constitution or any other piece of paper. We'll be there as long as Junior and his thugs want to be there. It has NOTHING to do with stability in Iraq or a Constitution or anything else. Those are excuses. We're there because Junior and Cheney WANT to be there. It's about power and positioning. Yes, they'll use the protests as an excuse to stay, but if there were no protests, they'd find another excuse. And that is the real deal.
