I just wanted to say it. I love my country, the United States of America.
I think we are the best country on earth, warts and all.
On edit:
Please forgive the "best" part. I'm just sick and tired of the freep bullshit that says we hate America.
I wish we would just stop the polarization that the masters in both parties foment to keep the dollars flowing in.
Instead of saying we are the "best" let me say we are as good as any and capable of much better.

It's the administration running this country that's bringing it down. I hate seeing what has become of it due to the psychopaths who gained power and the trust of a good portion of the people who live here. Of course, to the Freepers, hating Bush and his cronies is the equivalent to hating America, but no one said that Freepers have brains.

3. That's how I feel, too |

Which only increases my hatred of Bush by his tarnishing of our image and history in the name of greed.

my boy had to do a book cover on what he loved about america. unfortunately most of his life has been bush era and there aren't a lot of things america has done to be proud of the last 5 years. stealing elections, invading countries, murdering innocents, bankrupting our country, giving more money to the rich and corporations. wages arent staying with living wage. poor people are poorer with less help. school are in more trouble. hate against gays. hate against liberals. calling people unchristian cause we dont have the same beliefs.
most of the kids covers had bush on them, as if he represents america. my son had a tough time with it. he was really down. i often have to go to the america of the past, to share with him who we really are, what our strengths are.
after some frustration he was able to in good conscious find what he loves about america.
i think it is sad that we are in a time when a child has to struggle to find the good in america, instead of just knowing it to be so, like when i was a kid.
i had to sit both boys down and tell them this administration is not america and what it represents. it is a group of people. that is all. not indicitive of our nation

5. I don't subscribe to this "best country" stuff, because I feel no need |
|
to elevate myself above others to feel happy with what I have, or raise my self-esteem. That said, I love The United States, as well. It's too bad that we haven't stewarded our democracy, in the way that it was meant to be stewarded. That's very sad -- and a hell of a lot more of a travesty than 9-11, or soldiers, or any of this stuff we're dealing with in our little "micro"-bubbles.

7. "I think we are the best country on earth" |

If only we were acting like it. I feel fortunate to have been born in America, I have benefited from being born in America and I love what America once stood for. That being said, for the last several (like 5) years, I don't recognize the America I love in the country we have become. Of course I feel the tide turning and I am beginning to see the real America peeking out from the clouds.:patriot:

9. The Tide is Indeed Turning and... |

...I couldn't agree more that our administration has made the America I knew seem like a distant memory, albeit a short time in calendar years.
Now that:
The price of war (in blood, treasure, and confidence) goes up & up,
The price of energy goes up & up,
The price we pay in liberty for the "War on Terrorism" (no nation can win a war against an "ism") goes up & up...
...many of us Americans are awakening from our opiatic slumber -- as the cold waters of reality rise to wet our beds.
We can try and go back to sleep in that cold uncomfortable bed -- or get up to clean the matress & wash and dry the sheets.
