Courage under fire
Courage under fire

BAGHDAD - As its armored Humvees rumbled west along Route Mets in northern Baghdad, the ill-fated convoy sensed something was wrong.

"I remember we all mentioned there were no Iraqi police out. We were like, 'Oh man, that's never a good sign,'" said Daniel Barr, 33, a sergeant with New York's Fighting 69th.

Nobody saw the powerful platter charge hidden in a bag and tucked beside a vending stall. In a horrifying flash, the bomb exploded just 16 feet from the convoy's lead Humvee. Molten chunks of steel and copper ripped through the vehicle's turret and right rear passenger door.

The Brooklyn-born gunner, Sgt. Anthony Kalladeen, 26, and backseat rider Pfc. Hernando Rios, 29, of Woodside, Queens, died instantly.

THIS HAPPENED 3 WEEKS AGO. IT WAS ONLY PRINTED YESTERDAY.

IT SHOULD WAKE UP THE SHEEP IF THEY BOTHEREED TO READ IT

FIGHTING IN IRAQ IS LIKE TRYING TO NAIL JELLO TO A TREE.

1. Sadly some of those sheepeople just don't care or get it at all.
Thank you for posting this. Although I don't think it will get through some, it needs to be seen, heard and comprehended.

"FIGHTING IN IRAQ IS LIKE TRYING TO NAIL JELLO TO A TREE" - This is very true. Sadly gorilla warfare is ever thus. When we "Colonists" fought in much the same way against the British, French, etc and I'm sure they felt much the same about us back then.

If we don't learn from history we are doomed to repeat it... over and over... different time... different place... but always the same until we well and truly learn.

Thank you again.

2. They won't get it until their kid is killed
Ask almost any family member, what their relative died for in Viet-Nam, and whether in the long run, it was worth it.

4. Sadly I already know the answer to that,,,
my older brother's best friend growing up was killed there. Even as a child I could see the horrible pain his family went through... my brother just felt guilty (the military wouldn't take him) and got angry... still is I think.

3. I am still waiting to hear
what happened to the marine convoy attacked over a week ago. I have not seen any casualties listed for that one yet. It was that three bomb coordinated attack with several humvees on fire. Zip from CENTCOM.
