DU NASCAR fans unite!!!
I am a Nascar fan. A Nascar dad. I enjoy many different race leagues besides Nascar. I have been bothered by a self loading video on their main page that urges us to support the troops for "fighting for our freedom". They also say this during their broadcasts. I have a major problem with this faux patriotism. I urge fellow DU Nascar fans to contact NASCAR and let them know how you feel. I just sent the following letter to NASCAR.com:

I am a NASCAR fan but I have a major beef with the website, and the broadcasts in regard to the following concept:

One of the self loading videos that starts up on the home page encourages us to thank the troops for fighting for OUR FREEDOMS. This mantra is repeated during race broadcasts as well. This is completely and terribly misleading. While I can agree that a soldiers main mission IS to fight for our freedom, to blindly believe that is what they are doing currently in Iraq and Afghanistan and to encourage Americans to believe that, is doing a discredit to all Americans.

This is an illegal war that has nothing to do with our freedom at home. I fully support the troops, after all, they can't decide what wars to fight, they only follow orders given to them. But to portray what they have been ordered to do as "fighting for our freedom" is wrong, misleading, faux-patriotism and there is no excuse for the continuance of the "dumbing down" of Americans by repeating this misleading propaganda.

I continue to love the sport of Nascar, and the races and broadcasts as well. I understand that there is a strong tie between the NASCAR family, organization, it's fans and the military. But I think it's time to truly support the troops by being honest with your customer base, rather than be a willing co-conspirator in this failing president's illegal war effort and how he has mislead sons and daughters to die for a lie. I urge NASCAR to redesign it's "support" statement.

1. Good job on the letter, with just one suggestion:
This is sort of tongue-in-cheek but, you probably shouldn't use the French term "faux".
;-)

my email a few years ago about the pre-race prayer. Or my complaining to NHRA about their support of "Racers for Christ."

I have tickets to the SONY 500 next Sunday at California Raceway.

On edit: When I ordered my tickets by phone, I ended up in a conversasion with the very southern guy answering the phone about what a dumbass * is. He said "...yeah, Bush makes the whole South look bad."

As I said, it probably won't change anything, but we should let them know that the Duke boys aren't their entire fan base. Can I steal your letter?

4. have a great time!!
I've been to the Michigan race before (same layout as California), the Brickyard, and Joliet (Chicagoland) as well. It's a great sport, unfortunately being led by shameless kool aid drinkers.
