downtown will be 35 feet under water, the super dome is called the Only place of last resort for many..

i can see the that the roof will go quickly and Debee will swirl in a tornado inside.. the said the conditions inside the dome will Quickly degenerate when the storm hits ... the water there might be 10 or 15 feet.. with the surge and waves maybe a lot more.

Bu$h canceled Clintons Disaster Mitigation Programs, so we wont know how bad till it is over..

1. I thought they also said they don't expect landfall until Monday sometime.
Don't you think that's enough time to get the cars out of the traffic jam and away from NO?

6. Feeder bands will reach the city by 6pm tonight...
When the wind starts the roads will be closed by the police... and they will be trapped.

They aren't even opening shelters, I read there are only 10 shelters and one is the superdome.

They should have done this yesterday. People are going to die.

5. HELL NO.... I've evacuated from smaller areas before.
They needed to start yesterday. It's gridlock.. Last time we evacuated from a hurricane it took 36 hours to reach our hotel 200 miles away.

Cars will run out of gas trying to get out of there and about 4 hours before landfall they will close a lot of the roads.

3. The "authorities" have failed miserably here, IMO.
I may be missing something here, but a mandatory evacuation of NO was in order days ago. The mayor, governor of La. and of course the CowardinChief were asleep at the switch, and many lives will be lost as a result.

4. Commuter Rail Would Have Been A Big Help In evacuation
Edited on Sun Aug-28-05 01:46 PM by VogonGlory
Commuter rail would have been a big help in getting large numbers of people away from New Orleans before the hurricane hit. Lots of people could have been loaded in fewer rail cars than couples or small families fleeing the oncoming storm in automobiles. Of course Republicans like Grover Norquist and Tom DeLay are opposed to "gummint-owned" mass transit--and others are now in danger of paying with their lives for Banana Republican ideological hangups.

10. This is a real heartache.
How horrible for the people there. That is the most important concern -- the people. But there are also other sad things about this. New Orleans is such a wonderful place with so many buildings and sites of tremendous historical value.

I keep trying to remember that sometimes things don't turn out to be as horrible as we expect. Let's hope the predictions are wrong. At least nowadays we have ample warning about hurricanes. There was a time that they just happened - with little or no warning. This is still true of earthquakes, and of course, there are tornado warnings, but no one can predict exactly where a tornado will strike until it is far too late. Nature constantly reminds human beings that we are really very small.

11. So Much Poverty in LA
Many people in New Orleans are too poor to leave. The Superdome can only hold so many. It may truly be a very sad event.
