14 yr old girl, whose husband is charged with sexual assault, gives birth
LINCOLN, Neb. - A 14-year-old girl whose 22-year-old husband is charged with sexually assaulting a minor has given birth to their daughter, and the man said he plans to plead not guilty in the case.

The girl became pregnant when she was 13, and her mother gave permission in May for Matthew Koso to take her daughter to Kansas to marry.

Nebraska requires people to be at least 17 before they can marry. But Kansas does not have a minimum age as long as both parents or guardians approve or the marriage is approved by a judge, said a spokesman for Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline.

Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning has charged Koso with first-degree sexual assault, punishable by up to 50 years in prison if convicted.

And he is claiming not guilty because it had consent from the girl for sex? Sorry, but that dude is dead wrong. There is no way around this one unless DNA proves otherwise.

7. It is a pretty sick story
They live right over the state line in Nebraska. She got pregnant and they came to KS to get married. When the story was publicized, the Nebraska AG charged the husband with sexual assault.

There is no age limit for marriage in KS. The only good thing about this story is that now the gov is saying KS needs laws restricting marriage so this doesn't happen again.

Hey how you doing Maestro? I was thinking about you when I was in Crawford. Did you get down there?

13. this is awful
but how is a law preventing a marriage going to do anything about 25 year old guys impregnating 13 year old girls?

20. Kansas
Back in the bad old days when I was first married we traveled back to Illinois for a family reunion. We um, used a method of chemical stimulation that was popular back in the 80's and by the time we got to kansas we were borderline psychotic. Checked into a hotel and stared at the ceiling for a few hours before finally getting a little rest.

Anyway "I'm feeling kind of Kansased out" has become a term for over tired and slightly paranoid - you know, THAT state of mind.

31. I'm doing pretty well.
I wish I could get down to Crawford with the family but we have been very busy. In fact, since school is gearing up, this was the first Saturday I had off in two weeks. Hopefully things will let up so I can get down there but I am not sure. I'm there in spirit though.

 At thirteen you should be more worried about school and Jesse McCartney and Justin Timberlake then getting married to a twenty-two year old. My good grief!!

30. For some, that's just what you do
My parents' former neighbors were pleased as punch when the 56-year-old across the street got their 15-year-old pregnant: Not only did he have a good job hauling construction equipment, but also a nice pension from the mines.

When you believe that having and raising babies is the only thing women are supposed to be doing, the sooner the better, right?

6. While i may not agree with...
the idea of a 14 yr old lady pregnent by a 22yr old man, charging him is a worse crime. Just think when the child asks where is daddy? And the answer is in jail. Then when he ask why he is in jail the answer is, for making you.

9. I had mixed feelings until I read an article
about this boy. He has a history of having sex with very young girls. His wife's parents had complained about him being around their daughter until he got her pregnant. Then they decided the kids should get married.

It's a crazy story.

I read the post about the story, and changed my opinion. I didn't actually read the story because I didn't want to go through the hassle of registering.

12. She is not old enough to be a parent
This doesn't have anything to do with sexual orientation or govt being too involved in our lives. This little girl was not old enough at 13 to give consent to have sex with a man and she is not old enough at 14 to become a mother.

17. Same here
but that doesn't mean they were ready to accept the responsibility that comes with a sex life.

And I will bet the ones in your crowd weren't having sex with 20 year olds.

Exactly how is running them through the legal wringer going to help the situation?

27. Jail was already a deterrent, and clearly didn't work.
If being a parent is not enough of a deterrent in and of itself then there is nothing to fear from incarceration. Has he not been down the diaper aisle at Vons? Has he not seen a two-year-old throw a tempter tantrum at Disneyland? Dose he have a deep desire to use the changing tables in men's restrooms?

In this particular case, I can't think of a better scenario for letting the punishment fit the crime. He wants to "do it" with a 13 year old, then he can be husband and father. If he screws it up, then the law can intervene.

Speaking as someone who has been both husband and father, jail would be a vacation. :D
