This is awful....
I don't know what to say... They are reporting that waters in New Orleans are already up to the ceilings in some homes....and how much more rain is to come? Also, heard that one levee had broken and that can flood an area real quickly...

10. "Ruined"....nahhhhh...
give my hometowners so more credit. The leveee that is compromised is on the Intercoastal...it does that during every hurricane.

2. Waiting for damage assessments
to come in....

It sounds bad right now and the only saving virtue is that NO was spared the worst of the storm....so it wasn't the absolute worst case scenario but it's still going to be pretty bad.

That could cause a lot of long-term damage (a full one, that is). I'm praying for empty too.

5. where are you getting reports about the levees?
Am I right in thinking that the condition of the levees is the most important consideration about the extent of the damage to NO?

9. I heard it reported on FOX... said it was a "small" levee...?
Right before they had an interview with John Breaux who said the oil reserves should be opened up for this emergency.

Levee is on the Intercoastal....

14. The hearts of everyone in my household is with those poor people.

Those of us here who pray, send our prayers. Those who do not, send all positive thoughts.

It may seem crass to point this out in a post like this, but our President remains on vacation while this storm rages on. I can't imagine the sort of disregard for one's fellow Americans that must take...

16. Oh damn, the levees are breaking. Already. That's the worst.
This really is awful, I had a feeling about this storm when it hopped over Florida, I just knew it had New Orleans in it's sights. My spouse said if we'd have been there, I'd have had us out of state, staying with the inlaws, by Saturday. I think he's right.
