Buchanan suggests Bush impeachment
John Byrne

Pat Buchanan, a leading conservative pundit and former presidential adviser, quietly suggested House Republicans mull impeaching President Bush -- though not for the liberals' cause celebre, Iraq -- but rather for what he sees as Bush's 'criminal' failure to stem the tide of illegal immigrants, RAW STORY has discovered.

"We are being invaded," the reactionary Republican declared in his column Monday, "and the president of the United States is not doing his duty to protect the states against that invasion."

"Some courageous Republican, to get the attention of this White House, should drop into the hopper a bill of impeachment," he added, "charging Bush with a conscious refusal to uphold his oath and defend the states of the Union against 'invasion.'"

Strikingly, he credits Democrats for 'awakening' to the issue.

"Not only have Richardson and Napolitano awakened — they are on the front lines — so, too, has Hillary Clinton, who has spoken out against illegal immigration with a forthrightness that makes Bush sound like a talking head for La Raza."

Saying that this country is "doomed" to become pluralistic and culturally homogeneous?

Funny, because I thought that was America's chief strength.

29. This is what you call the lesser of two evils, in my view.....
Some extremist job like Pat or Bay Buchanon is better for US policy than a whole wing of extremist nutjobs like John Bolton and PNAC, who for the most part are not even loyal to the USA and are embroiled in spy scandals.

When you have outside countries involved in creating policy, you got trouble, and not of the pretty kind. When it is only the USA and lawmakers involved you can correct it or stave it off, but when it involves spying and other nations thats an impossibility.

I can bet this started before Able Danger, IMO it started with the department of state and interior.

And his sister Bay Buchanon, impeachment is the only possible way out of this mess.

And then forced imprisonment. To do anything else would make the clinton fiasco seem like the riviera and show the USA is based on lawlessness......

I also strongly disagree with any defense of Karl Rove....he deserves federal prison. Not for life, like true traitors deserve...But Rove should be imprisoned no matter what, contrary to what Bay Buchanon referred to as "senseless attacks"...

37. Case in point to add to what Krugman was saying....
Karl Rove violated the protections act of a national security law, 794c in conjunction with the Spy Scandal.

He senselessly blew the cover of a CIA operation and all its people, who were tracking weapons of mass destruction and any threats to United States security.

That's a crime far beyond politics, friend. In doing so, he permanently shredded the constitution. In this act the line of treason was crossed without care. Whether intentional or non-intentional, Karl Rove and his friend Scooter Libby permanently desecrated the security of the United States.

It is also my firm belief he was paid to do it and because of Cheney's involvement kept quiet.

32. but there are 2 very distinct groups with diff. agendas.
The necons currently destroying our nation
The Conservatives, of which Pat is a part, are totally different

In fact, you would be surprised on how much you might agree with a true conservative (I know, I debate one when I visit my parents every time)

Little or no budget defecits
No wars without total justification and in self-defense (Never any proactive wars, or those based on religious ideas of Rapture)
Conservative approaches to changing existing law
Conserservative approaches to changing social security protections
Conservative approaches to maintaining constitutional rights. (You should hear my conservative dad rail on the Patriot Act)

while he and I agree to disagree, a lot of what the true conservative says is little different than what many of us say here.

Conservatives hate Neocons as much as we hate what some Dems in Congress are doing hand in glove with the neocons. Lumping them together is like comparing my car to my farts. Both involve costly gas.

Now that a big chunk of the electorate is ALSO against the war, it would be safe for someone like him to step forward and "make a name for himself," so to speak by further damaging Bush. He has had Presidential aspirations in the past; I don't know if he's totally given them up.

31. Pat's Column in Human Events: Yes, Buchanan calls for impeachment
But it's over illegal immigration...

Immigration & Foreign Affairs
The Illegal Immigration Emergency: Would a Bill of Impeachment Wake-Up President Bush?

by Patrick J. Buchanan
Posted Aug 26, 2005

On Aug. 12, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson declared a state of emergency "due to a chaotic situation involving illegal alien smuggling and illegal drug shipments" on his southern border. Three days later, Gov. Janet Napolitano followed suit in Arizona.

Reason: the crisis on the border. The ally-ally-in-free immigration policy of George Bush and Vicente Fox, beloved of corporate America, has created a hell on our southern border.

Those Southwestern states are being inundated by illegal aliens trashing ranches, killing cattle, committing crimes and eating up tax dollars. The traffic in narcotics and human beings from Mexico is a national scandal and a human rights disgrace.

What is true of New Mexico and Arizona is true of our nation, which is now home to an estimated 10 million to 15 million aliens who have broken our laws and broken into our country. It is a mark of the cowardice of our leaders that they are so terrified of being called "bigots" they tolerate this criminality. The moral rot of political correctness runs deep today in both national parties.

36. Is THIS What We're Talkin About ???
<snip>

Twice, Bush has taken an oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Article IV, Section 4 of that Constitution reads, “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against invasion.”

Well, we are being invaded, and the president of the United States is not doing his duty to protect the states against that invasion.

Some courageous Republican, to get the attention of this White House, should drop into the hopper a bill of impeachment, charging Bush with a conscious refusal to uphold his oath and defend the states of the Union against “invasion.”

It may be the only way left to get his attention, before the border vanishes and our beloved country dissolves into MexAmerica, what T.R. called a “polyglot boarding house for the world.”

The thing that pisses me off about Buchanan (besides the bigotry, anti-Semitism) is that he voted for Bush in 2004. I don't get why he did that if he hates Bush so much. And throughout the entire election year he demonized Kerry, called him a traitor and strongly supported the Swift Boaters.

But as it unlikely as it may seem, the movement can use those like Buchanon to spearhead impeachment movements.

Who better to motivate spineless congress members especially the GOP, to file articles of impeachment?

And either procedure gets attention in the public spotlight. Bigoted as he may be, sometimes changes in political climate create unlikely and unusual alliances.

He does not know about our constitution, but he knows when the US is no longer served and when treason has been committed.

And the only reason he is anti-war, is because he thinks the war is one for Israel and Jews.

This whole statement is dismissive of the larger problem. There is some truth to Buchanon's logic. Everything related to the spy scandal has to do with rogue israelis in our country, the United States. True jews or israelis do not even support this war, but evidence suggests that the neo-conservatives who are formally referred to as zionist do support everything PNAC stands for and those like Paul Wolfowitz wrote the policy.

I don't agree that going against them is anti-semitic, just like going against the Bush/Cheney regime has never been anti-american. I do agree that the evidence has been spun into an anti-semite campaign and Pat and his cronies use it to further their hatred of races of people.

But I do not think we can focus on that issue, when the issue is with many from Israel's party of neoconservatives being the architects of this war. If that part is scrutinized, an impeachment bill would pass and stand good chance.

47. Impeachment talk scares the hell out of me
because when you corner a rattle snake he strikes. Clinton was too mellow to think coup if he were convicted, but these guys? I know there is a lot of talk of coup on here (with some thinking it's already happened) but if you get a bunch of idiots (and or loyal troops) who think the president was wrongly convicted, then they feel obligated to make it "right." And then the jackboots might really hit the street. I know some of y'all have the stomach for real revolution but I gotta tell you I just don't. I see too much blood and crap on the street in my work.
