12 out of 100 cars on my main drag sported ribbons today |
|
Took the day off, so I went for an iced coffee today with a friend and we took a little survey just for the fun of it while we were sitting at a table outside. I counted 100 cars moving by us in one direction and he counted the number of them that had magnetic ribbons. Commercial trucks didn't count, just the passenger type vehicles including pickups. I'm in a rural upstate part of NY where it's about 50/50 Dems and Republicans. If anything there are probably a few more Repubs here than Dems.

Though it is called "anecdotal", Naturalistic observation is quite valid when it is framed accurately.

4. We're in a rural area of northern NY & rarely see them any more |

unless we get closer to Watertown (where Fort Drum is) about an hour and a half away. Then it's not all that surpising to see a lot of them but even there it was less then last time, enough that I remarked to my husband about it.
Thankfully we don't go into Watertown to often, it breaks my heart to see all those young faces in uniform knowing that many will be going over soon and some may not come back or will come back but forever changed.
We were there spending a couple days this past Winter when a large amount arrived back home. Seeing the joy on the children's faces at seeing Daddy or Mommy again was wonderful but after the joy of seeing their loved ones has faded a bit (like the next morning) you see a sort of haunted/ hunted "old" look in many of the soldiers eyes. :(

5. Ribbons are a difficult way to judge. |
|
I have a blue ribbon that says "Bring Home Our Troops" on my car. When I went to a meeting with my local Democrats, most of the cars in the lot had ribbons. We all support the soldiers. Just not the pimp who sold them out for oil.

6. At first, I felt the same way. I don't think there's a person here who |

doesn't want the troops to come home soon and safely. However, there is no way I'd ever put a ribbon on my vehicle now because too many people view it as a thumb's up for Bush's war. I like your blue ribbon, but only if it's huge and can be read from 100 feet away so it's distinguishable from the rest. The only ribbon I'd ever put on would be one that said in large letters, "Support the troops. Impeach and Arrest Bush".

Democrats have ribbons. I'm just saying, unless you can pull them over and talk to them, you might assume they are with bush when in fact they're not. Now if they also have a pick 'em up truck with a gun rack in the back and a full size confederate flag flying off the bumper, then I think you can safely assume that they are bushnazis. :)
