For people interested in damage in ST TAMMANY
http://www.wwltv.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2414&sid=2667ff9fe76aa0ea2f414875deda1bc6

There are lots of eyewitness reports here.

"Unconfirmed: Central Slidell-(old town) is underwater. Severe structural damage in some areas.

Confirmed: Covington Area- Causeway toll booths have moderate damage, many trees are down and uprooted. I saw a BP gas station pretty destroyed, as well as a small bridge partially destroyed. I didn't see much flooding, but this was all at 11:30am.

Eden Isles Slidell-
I saw on CNN's website, a person in Eden Isles taking pictures and video outside her home. It appeared to be flooded in several areas. Depth appeared to vary from 1" to 3+ feet. This video was from sometime around noon."

3. More on Slidell
"The Slidell footage shown just came on about 30 minutes ago, and the footage was from 12:00 or so. How they got the footage there I don't know, but if their truck survived that'd be a surprise.

They showed the outside of the hospital with major damage on the corner with windows blown out and some structural damage. Several witnesses said that they saw buildings that were completely caved in. Even the cars in the parking garage were being slid sideways. The garage looked like a wind tunnel. The reporter couldn't even begin to stand up."

5. Mandeville
"There has been video in the Covington/Mandeville area showing flooding, building damage, and broken/uprooted trees."

"They had a Weather Channel reporter stationed in Covington earlier today. I saw the roof of a gas station blown off and a few streets flooded in that footage. Also, O'neil theater substained some structural damage. He mentioned that areas close to the lake flooded."

"On WBRZ here in baton rouge, they just interviewed a reporter from Mandeville and showed some brief video. He sounded positive as longas you weren't in old mandeville. Most damage was not water damage, but tree damage... and "there were more trees up than were down." Again, he sounded positive about mandeville if not by tchefuncte or in old mandeville... but his video didn't show much except a couple of downed trees on hwy 22. He said it's difficult to drive anywhere, and there were no unblocked streets to the lake."

"One of the WGNO ABC 26 reporters had footage from mandeville and was playing it here on their sister station in Baton Rouge (I'm with relatives in BR, and live in Mandeville). It's not much, but here's what I saw...

1. The footage was basically of Highway 22. Lots of trees down, laying on the power lines between 22 and Beau Rivage... Power lines are sagging down and are basically laying in the street.

2. Could see some houses in behind the tree line in Beau Rivage and Wedgewood Farms.. They looked ok, even though there was a tree blocking the entrance to Wedgewood Farms.

3. The Tchfuncte (sorry for the typo, I've lived in Mandeville for 6 years, and still screw that up). Has risen to the curve in Highway 22 by Del Oaks. The standing water is up to the street sign by Penn's Chapel. Obviously the news crew couldn't get past this. "

Slidell suffers extensive flood damage; Mandeville, Covington wind damage, power loss

09:45 PM CDT on Monday, August 29, 2005

WWLTV.com

Northshore Bureau Chief Mike Ross says information from the Northshore has been sparse because there is no communication available from that side of the Lake.

He emphasized that no residents are being allowed back in to St. Tammany and anyone attempting to return is being stopped by law enforcement....

.... The visual inspections of Ross and his photographer Mike Bland showed that Slidell has probably endured massive storm surge damage.
He said Lake Pontchartrain overflowed its banks and had chest-deep water from the Lake to the Old Spanish trail exit.

“You can’t tell where the Lake ends and Slidell begins,” he said.

St. Tammany Parish officials plan to send boats into the area Tuesday to assess the damage and look for survivors. In Covington and Mandeville, there was extensive wind and tree damage and power was out to every place he went.

Mike Ross said more information would be available Tuesday."
