1. Deaths or casualties?
Casualties are not necessarily dead.

3. He said casualties.
But I think he was implying deaths. It's the way he said it.

5. Media casualties = deaths
Injuries would be much higher.

4. I'd be leary of that. The initial casualty estimate after 9/11 was 20,000+

6. Yea, I'd be leary too...
But, at the same time, if I remember right, the tsunami casualty rate kept moving up from 50,000 to 75,000, 100,000, etc.

Either way -- I don't think it's going to be pretty. :(

8. A tornado can take out 50 in a matter of minutes
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 01:12 AM by daleo
So, I would expect that a hurricane like this could do a lot worse (I know tornadoes are more intense, but they don't last long). The tsunami death toll just climbed and climbed. A death toll in the many hundreds seems likely (at least).

On edit - Once the area is safe, Bush will poke around for half an hour and talk about praying for people. The corporate media will swoon over his good Christian heart, totally ignoring his unconcern today.

9. Caualties include dead AND injured
That is not an estimated death toll.
