Billions amassed for surviors from 9/11. Will there be a similar response
for poor survivors from Katrina? I know the nation can't and doesn't respond that way after every hurricane...but this is so different and affects so many people AND more people who have no insurance, no jobs, no help of any kind and who are dirt poor have been affected by this storm. This is so sad.

The Red Cross is doing all they can...I love that organization and want to ask all my fellow DUers to contribute at least $20 to them.

My family is safe (at least for now in NC but toronados are a threat). We are trying to figure out what we could do for the people in NO and elsewhere after the danger is over.

I was thinking about planning for auto caravans of just a driver to go there to pick up people and drive them north to their families is they have places to go and no way to get there. What do you folks think?

The REAL looting will take place after the danger is over with high prices for food and gasoline. Please do what you can to talk this up to the media who could do much and would be spend better time jaw-boning gouging instead of "looting."

Peace

1. looting = psyop to reduce sympathetic response to the victims
It's probably not even happening. Seriously, how many people have been allowed out of shelters? How many people can even get around in this mess?

The neocons are far, far beyond despicable for pulling this crap.

2. That's exactly what they're doing and
the majority of those people affected by this disaster are the wrong COLOR. Let's see how the repukes respond with their compassionate conservatism. Let's see how much of their money flows to those poor AFRICAN AMERICANS. :grr: Shall we place bets?

3. I bet you a dollar zero goes to poor African Americans
Hell, they'll probably send in the Klan as "manpower" for the relief efforts at the rate the neocons are going.

4. Well, there are a lot of poor whites (my family included) in LA, MS, AL
Surely, you are not suggesting that only African-Americans will be the only ones hurt by this. It has been my experience in this country is that poor people of every stripe have much more in common than people within a single race. It's just that the wealthy capitalize on our prejudices, fears, and ignorance to keep us fighting one another.
