Just saw some photos from where Katrina made landfall |
|
A co-worker who is part of our emergency response team just sent me some pictures he took along the Mississippi River near where Katrina made landfall (about 60 mile SE of New Orleans).
One photo shows two large 35-40 foot vessels sitting on State Road 23 with a whole cluster of 30 or so smaller fishing vessels smashed together, some are also on SR 23. At least one fuel tank has been breached because there are fuel slicks on the surrounding water.
Because SR 23 is essentially the only road down to those coastal towns along the Miss. Riv. it's going to take a long time to clear the boats off the road so rescue teams can get to the towns. Also, the fuel leaks will make the work very hazardous.
Another picture shows a 120 foot cargo vessel stranded on the levee. It looks like almost all the homes along the river are destroyed, if not by wind, then the flooding. The debris is awesome. For all practical purposes this area of Louisiana is leveled (my opinion, and I'm not an expert).
These are pictures from a reconnaissance mission so I can't post them on a political website without permission.

1. Can you put them on a non-political website |
|
and then post a really good hint about how to find them?
