CNN just reported that Rummy has authorized a joint military/NG
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 09:47 AM by Ilsa
military/National Guard task force to take over the security and rescue mission for La, Ms, Al, and any other state that suffers extensive flooding requiring emergency declaration. Said a General will be in charge.

At first, I thought it was good to have more people involved in this since so many NG are in Iraq. Now it feels more like a martial law thing. :tinfoilhat:

I'm glad I'm in south Tx. It's just a matter of time before we get a hurricane also. :tinfoilhat:

1. Shouldn't it be the President
issuing this sort of order?

Well at least someone is doing something, I suppose.

9. Another party? Geesh.
Well, he is probably drunk anyway so it might as well be Rummy.

4. My thoughts exactly.
My first reaction was, "Well, good thing Rummy has a handle on things." :eyes:

7. pResident AWOL is on the run again....
It's about fucking time....didn't Rumsfeld know "Katrina was determined to strike" BEFORE the storm hit?

12. This is a major screw up for Bush. He should be out making these
statements.

What a complete idiot but I guess, he must get on with his life.

Sometimes you think he would do the right thing just out of political expediency.

13. Now that is a question we won't hear asked I'm sure.
Damn straight the pResident should be front and center as the "Leader" of our nation. He demonstrated the same concern on 9-11 as well.

21. Yeah, but on 911 he had a good excuse.

He was busy getting himself out of harm's way. In this case he was already well out of harm's way. It wasn't like he was holed up inside the fake Prairie Chapel ranch house with Katrina's Cat 5 winds threatening to blow him and his uncleared brush all to kingdom come.

2. He'll probably send 100 people and expect that to be enough
And they will arrive in their desert vehicles and wish they had some equipment that actually worked or helped.

He'll probably add to the problem.

6. Rumsfeld authorized a joint?
The war on drugs has ended? :smoke:

If only. The war on Katrina-stricken areas is scary. Where's that faith-based initiative thingee now? I'd rather have churches organizing relief than the military. Just look at how compassionately we've liberated Iraq to get an idea of military relief efforts.

:sarcasm:

8. I just heard they just declared martial law in New Orleans. I think
we just have to hope that this is the right thing to do. Obviously, they need help, big time. I only have one last iota of trust in the government, and I am using it now.

14. I don't like Rumsfeld, but at least he cares about the U.S.
I know this isn't a popular opinion, but Rumsfeld seems to be a genuinely concerned person and is doing what he can to help.

Of all the people in the Bush administration, I think Rumsfeld is the only one that truly believes in what he does, even though it's usually wrong. He was in the smoldering remains of the part of the Pentagon that was hit helping injured people get out while the rest of the Bush administration ran to hide like cowards (Cheney was too fat and out of shape to even run to save his own life, and had to be carried out by the Secret Service.)

I am completely against Rumsfeld and do consider him a war criminal, but in this situation, I do believe that he has the places hit by the hurricane in mind, and not setting up a police state. Now, if it were Iraqis who were suffering from a hurricane, things would be very different.

18. Rumsfeld is a dangerous psychopathic fuck
Please don't be fooled by any false display of humanity. There's no "there" there. I do agree with you that he's a war criminal though.

19. Well, if he does to New Orleans what he did to Iraq
we are truly fucked.

There was a call put out yesterday for people with small boats to come help rescue those trapped in trees and on their rooftops.

I'd almost rather it be a civilian thing.

You know he'll fuck it up.

He's a psychopath
