What would Bush have done with Cuban Missile Crisis? That scare anyone? |
|
Seeing the way Bush prioritizes things today, I find that scenario downright scarey!
If you've watched "The Fog of War", where McNamara recounts the different personalities involved in trying to resolve that crisis, and now seeing Bush continue to just give speeches to more war hawks here in San Diego and try and solicit support for his pharmaceutical company buddies last night, I really wonder what he would have done had he been president instead of Kennedy then.
He might just have followed the advice of one of his generals and responded with a nuke attack himself, instead of playing the stand down game that Kennedy and McNamara did, or he might have tried to "delegate" all of this to Rummy or Condi while he went out and played golf! Either way, I wonder if we wouldn't have all been carbonized particles. Just one more reason we need to get this cancer out of our white house!

3. I think he would have ordered bombing. |
|
As Curtis LeMay, then Air Force Chief of Staff was urging Kennedy to do. And we're assuming that Bush would have had the same people around him then as he does today....Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Bolton at the United Nations. I think he would have eschewed diplomacy and ordered bombing against Cuba...thus precipating a nuclear exchange between us and the Soviet Union.

I'm sure of it. We have a whole administration full Curis LeMay clones. I was 8 years old then. It's weird to think that I may never have grown up and had my own kids.

And people worry obsessively about terrorist attacks...WWIII was really something to worry about, the prospect of being incinerated with little warning was just part of life along with air-raid drills and fallout shelters.
Hard to imagine what Bush would've done. I don't think he could've handled it. He would;ve either cracked or pushed the button, probably both.
I was six years old but remember the time pretty clearly.

7. He would have nuked Miami, go to war with France. |
|
and told us it was Cuba, then he would go to war with France. I mean, Bush goes after those that can not hurt us, so this is reasonable.

15. He'd probably nuke France after DeGaulle pulled troops out of NATO in 66 |
|
... that is if he'd gotten through and not gotten us nuked in the Cuban Missile Crisis earlier...

and "do it right" the second time, just like he's rationalizing going into Iraq to "do it right this time"!

Contrast cool, calm, rational, self-assured JFK with the raving, brain-damaged, bullying, "faith"-based Chimp. The world would have gone up in a thermonuclear fireball. :scared:

Russia would then nuke the US calling it a "rogue state."

No matter that Saddam would have been in his early 20s at the time, that was the Bush/neocon answer to every challenge: Bomb Saddam!
