Should Cindy and folks shut down Camp Casey out of respect...?
for the victims of this disaster? As an example for the president to follow? rather than be seen as a thorn in the side of Bush at this tragic time? Just a thought....

1. Nope, One Disaster does not make Iraq go away...
If you shut down Camp Casey then the Hurricane wins!

So NO, the validity of their argument remains

2. I've thought that
and if Bush were acting the least bit Presidential instead of partying with the elite, I'd say yes.
But the one thing that comes to mind is that the lives lost along the Gulf mean as little as the lives lost in Iraq.
The fucker doesn't have a conscience.

3. I don't think so
I believe she did say the other day that she encouraged people to help the relief effort. If Bush would encourage people to help it might be something. He doesn't give a shit, however.

4. Tomorrow.....
.....she's spoken about the victims. Besides, I would imagine they're starting already. Personally, I don't see how she'll be seen in the thorn in the side of Bush NOW for christ's sake - any more than before.

Where the f*ck is the president? The man is a despicable disgrace!

6. No.
Camp Casey Texas is being struck tomorrow. They need to continue focusing on Iraq occupation and accountability. They will be off the front page as they need to be during this time, but need to keep up the work. We can multi-task focus. They do express sympathy, some @ CC have loved ones in the hurricane by the way.

They only have a few days left, and should stay like they promised to.

If the promise they made is kept, it already shows that they have more integrity then Bush has, not a difficult thing when you think
about it.

What could be better then keeping their word, now that's setting an example for Bush.

By the way Bush doesn't give rat's ass about those people, remember what he said a few days ago about how the people should get to higher ground, and then proceeded to sell his Social Security and Medicaid plans?

Just a thought....

10. I think we have enough compassion to do both.
Cindy may drop out of the headlines for a while, but I don't think that shutting down is an option. The soldiers we honor and those we care about still need us, as do the Iraqi civilians. This war has to end.

12. Camp Casey is slowly being dismantled today
The electrical wiring will be unplugged soon, and the tents will follow. The leftover supplies will be sent to NO. The vets in the camp are heading to LA to help with rescue efforts because there are not enough guardsmen left stateside to help with rescue efforts.

13. Should Shrub not have cut $70 million dollars from the hurricane budget?

When was the last time our "I can't think of any mistakes I've made" WH resident decided to follow the example of thoughtful, intelligent people?

When will Bush set the example for the country, and the world, of being the "compassionate conservative" he's insisted he is?

I'd bet anything that right now Bush's aides are doing their best to impress upon him that smirking right now is not an appropriate expression.

In fiscal year 2006, the New Orleans district of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is bracing for a record $71.2 million reduction in federal funding.

It would be the largest single-year funding loss ever for the New Orleans district, Corps officials said.

I've been here over 30 years and I've never seen this level of reduction, said Al Naomi, project manager for the New Orleans district. I think part of the problem is it's not so much the reduction, it's the drastic reduction in one fiscal year. It's the immediacy of the reduction that I think is the hardest thing to adapt to.

There is an economic ripple effect, too. The cuts mean major hurricane and flood protection projects will not be awarded to local engineering firms. Also, a study to determine ways to protect the region from a Category 5 hurricane has been shelved for now.

35. You raise an interesting point.
Here's a clear example of *'s lousy economy and budget cutting causing hardship and death. Is the media calling him on this? Not that I've heard. Then, you look at the *erroneous* "wall of silence" story from last week where the MSM did their best to blame 9/11 on Gorelick/Clinton. So typical...and so tragic.

17. I think she should go to Washington or wherever one would reasonably
expect a president to be to help coordinate this crisis and then start saying that we're waiting for a president here to be doing his job! Be careful not to get in the way of real relief efforts and perhaps find some ways to help them, but make it clear that this dingbat isn't doing his job.

20. Another thought-provoking post from you, Kentuck. Thanks.
Camp Casey`s message needs to resonate all across this country, even in times of disaster and heartbreak.

There are fellow humans in Iraq who, as your question was being asked, are also experiencing death and destruction. No water. No electricity. No jobs. No hope.

Imagine the pain many soldiers are experiencing today, just knowing they`re stuck in Iraq while their families are gasping for air and their states are wrecked beyond comprehension. Their absence must be like a knife through the heart.

Pick your battles, as the saying goes. Iraq is still at the top of my list.

34. Cindy's message needs to resonate all around the world too.
And it's also very important for the entire world to continue hearing Camp Casey's message as long as the bandits who perpetrate war crimes remain in power.

OTOH, most of this world's "normal" citizens do feel the sadness of the situation that's been caused by this catastrophic storm too, I'm sure.

My family, friends, and I do feel for everybody's losses and pain.

21. I thought they were getting ready to leave anyway and
some folks who were in Crawford are already mobilizing to go help with the clean-up. I also read that leftover food/water was going to be donated to Katrina victims.

I think the example the Camp Casey folks are making is that Americans are capable of caring about other people hurt by war or natural disaster at the same time.

George on the other hand seems to enjoy bikes, fundraisers, and sweet sweet cake.

23. Should Bush be in a white building in DC doing his job?
For just this type of thing he wanted so badly?

Instead of playing bike ridey with a meglomaniac, running to and fro to play and raise money, hiding from a soldier's mother, eating cake with a fuck-wit that lost his mind, maybe...just maybe, he could "tough it out" and actually sit in the oval office act like he gave a shit about the horrors occuring in his pet war, New Oleans and the economic Hiroshima that is lurking in the corner.
