Bad news on levee break
6:41 P.M. - Efforts to stop the levee break at the 17th Street Canal have ended unsuccessfully and the water is expected to soon overwhelm the pumps in that area, allowing water to pour into the east bank of Metairie and Orleans to an expected height of 12-15 feet.

1. That's horrible news.
This is turning into a worst case scenario. Sure, it can always be "worse" in theory, but this is about as bad as anyone could have reasonably expected.

The local TV anchors are talking about a massive spread of infectious disease like cholera. Make a very dilute solution of Clorox and water and clean your skin if you must go out in the water.

HOLY CRAP: BREAKING: 9' FEET OF WATER EXPECTED IN EASTBANK/ORLEANS
BECAUSE THE PUMPS?LEVEE REPAIR HAVE FAILED. TV just reported.

The local TV anchors are warning: no health care available, don't get in the water, chance of massive infection of cuts on skin...
"It's only going to get worse..."

7. where can they go?
can't they take refuge in high rise office buildings or high rise hotels? Is that allowed or "trespassing and against the law"? They are going to drown.

8. There are no high rise buildings in those neighborhoods.
NOLA is vast and spread out. Ther are only tall buildings in the central business district and at the universities.
