The sad, sad truth is if this was
not a natural disaster, but another attack on America it shows you (outside of NY) how unprepared America is for a disaster. This scares me more than anything.$300 Billion used to blow up a country and America had no plan to help us when the s*it hits the fan.Guys accept it....we are on our own if our city gets attacked....sleep well tonight, I won't

4. This is a morbid thought but if the death toll from Katrina
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 08:13 PM by merbex
eclipses 9/11 death toll B* has lost his last talking point for justifying the War in Iraq

He sat around Crawford, flew to Arizona and CA while a major American city was destroyed and he really did nothing to evacuate thousands of people from potential death

7. He'll just say it's another completely unpredictable bad thing, like 9/11
He'll say that there will be reforms and then, when it's time for the appropriations, he'll kill it.

8. We thought for 3 days that this was the BIG one.......
WHY is gods name were the citizens not taken out on buses and Amtrak. For those who say that is hurculean feat, may I remind you we go to Mars....We can evaculate 10,000 poor people. The lack of Leadership is astonishing.....and this wasn't the BIG one!

15. No, you are not correct, serryjw. I heard
early Saturday a.m. that NO was in the immediate projected path. That is hardly 3 days, so I can't blame buses and Amtrak exclusively. Having said that, I saw a field of school buses underwater in a pic today; once the realization that this could be a big hit, why didn't anyone get a clue? The one good thing that was done was getting 9,000+ people into the Dome. Too little, too late...

6. This just in...
America is a waste. Millions of people who care about nothing but their own cars, their own asses and their own football teams. They know nothing of sacrifice, of science; little of compassion and everything of filling their giant gorged stomachs with more loot from the earth. Fuck 'em all.

Funny ... I never thought this way until today when I sat through a work meeting and heard a lot of jokes about the poor people of NOLA.

A big tsunami should wash this whole pitiful country to hell.

19. No. It took much longer than that.
Over time, for a number of reasons centering around the materialistic, people cared less and less about the things that matter most.

Bush may be but a symptom of the disease.

17. Are the people you work with a real cross-section of America?
Is there something about the field you work in that creates such careless cynicism? Are they racist?

18. Perhaps you should
change jobs?
No, not all Americans are as you characterize them. Witness DU; there are many differing opinions about a lot of things concerning this hurricane, but I haven't read one that wasn't concerned for the victims in the end. If one was posted, it surely was deleted.

10. and in slow motion
by most standards, they had a generous warning period for this storm, what the hell could happen to larger cities that need to evacuate in practically no notice?

11. How true.
What blows my mind is that there was plenty of warning of this. They saw Katrina coming and they knew it would be bad. People weren't helped to evacuate and rescue crews were obviously inadequately prepared for the aftermath. The main gas and power lines should have been SHUT OFF before the storm hit, for God's sake, and now they've had downed live lines and gas bubbling up through broken mains.

The lack of preparation -- even knowing the when and where and worst case scenario -- is unbelievable.

14. You'd think 9-11 would have made our fearless leaders
preparedness mad, yet they have cut funding on everything leaving us really twisting in the wind if something like this happens.
