I'm listening to Lionel online. They're in the news break. There's a story about a rash of B&E's somewhere (I missed the location), the latest saw the theft of $300.
But here's the bizarro part: the newsman used the term "invasion," I think he said "outbreak of invasions." I'm going, whuhhh???? Are these cat burglars or locusts, what the HECK is he talking about?
It just seemed like very odd usage.

always in the context of "home invasion robberies/burglaries", I think it is more to express the idea of your home/privacy being invaded when you are there.
