8. I get it
Of course, I believe in a free and independent Quebec. Obviously, this is all indicative of my being on a higher mental plane.

3. I wanted to save it BEFORE I knew that.
Although it would figure that a seriously fun-loving city would vote that way.

Maybe it explains the levee repair cuts, though.

5. Normally I'd say that was paranoia, but Bush is very petty and vindictive
I can see him denying requests for assistance because of election returns. It fits exactly with what he's done so far. I can even see him right now saying "Fuck it, they wouldn't support me, I won't support them."

I really, really, hate him.

understanding how his boy fared in NO last November, his response is undoubtedly "Fuck 'em!" . . . that's the kind of guy he is . . .

11. Given Bush's documented penchant for vindictiveness...
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 02:03 AM by newswolf56
these election results go a long way to explain why he slashed the levee-improvement and disaster relief funds for New Orleans, why he privatized the FEMA responsibilities (no doubt to a Halliburton-type friend), and why he hasn't troubled himself to make any federal response. Also might explain why the Army helicopters never showed up to help close the break in the levee.

But the worst is yet to come: wait until Bush's Christofascist/Conservative hostility to social services hamstrings the rebuilding effort -- or turns it into another profit center for his oligarchic friends.

Not only that, but gasoline at probably $5 per gallon (according to an earlier DU post, already $3.30 in Chicago).

This storm and its consequences are not just el finito for New Orleans -- the resulting fuel crisis may very well be the end of life in America as we have known it: forever. And Bush and the oligarchy will gloat all the way to the bank -- while the rest of us sink into ever-worsening poverty.

Edit: typo.

12. They literally voted along the lines of self-preservation.
Kerry would have done a better job of giving them federal money to shore up that levee.

13. Ever notice that counties across the US that were blue..
are the ones that are most likely to deal with big trouble?

Terrorism, floods, quakes, riots, crime.. blue American counties voted as though their lives were on the line.

Red American counties? Who cares? It's not like they'd be attacked or under catastrophe. What would terrorists attack in Red America - the Wal-Mart on the strip? The little antique shop on town square? The feed store on the way outta town? Yeah, right..

(yup, I'm a bit angry right now..)

14. Those Numbers Are Unremarkable...
New Orleans has an African American majority and they tend to vote Democratic...
