Welcome to New Orleans (amazing front page picture in WashPost)

Of course what's sadder about this picture is the article listed right below it on the http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/30/AR2005083002162.html

8. Plans to allow New Orleans to be damaged by storms and floods date back
at least several years, judging by the massive cuts or blocks in project/grant funds to protect the city or provide disaster relief. In addition to the other threads I and others have posted on how the Bush Administration cut funding for disaster protection and relief, here's a new one. So far it only has 3 votes, and it's buried in the Editorial Forum - it deserves a wider audience:

Even just the excerpt given in the OP shows that this is a long-term policy of the Bush Administration. No explanation for denial of the funds was given. The money still went to places like Texas and California, but despite all evidence suggesting that they should be first in line, NOTHING for New Orleans.

2. The easiest way to remain sane...
...is to NOT think about what could have been accomplished with the money spent on the Iraq war.

And the lives of the 1880 U.S. soldiers (2074 for the entire "coalition")...

I understand Diebold, and I understand Karl Rove, and I understand fanatical evangelical "Christians," but I don't understand how this country signed up for four more years of George W. Bush. I wish I could just have one single moment of clarity, with all of the "tinfoil hat" conspiracies stripped away, and truly KNOW how that happened.
