Two Fox reporters screaming at each other about looting . . .
One showing compassion saying she can understand why people would loot for food, diapers, water, etc.

The other, your typical Freeper saying that martial law should be declared and the looters should be shot.

10. No. She was a blonde lady, it's very possible she's a mom
which would explain the strange appearance of compassion on Fox. :)

12. She is.
That's ED Hill.

She's a tool, but she's a mother and every now and then she says something that's not crack riddled--unlike the two guys who are sitting there with her.

I'd guarantee the guy arguing with her was Brian Kilmeade, a frigging sports guy who says whatever pops into his head because he now fancies himself a proper news man.

5. And where are they suppose to buy food, diapers water, etc?
What job are they suppose to go to to earn money to buy food and other necessities?

I wish they did have enough cops and national guardsmen that chasing after looters could be a priority because then they'd have enough to rescue people, and help evacuations, and help repair all the damage that's been done to the area. They need to get their priorities straight and focus on saving instead of shooting people.

11. That's exactly the point she was making.
If the storeowners are a hundred miles away and safe, and there are people here who are starving and need supplies, there is no way other than looting for them to get those supplies at this time.

It isn't pretty, but many (those with any compassion) would see it as a necessity for survival.

6. If you've ever had a baby,
totally dependent on you, hungry, in wet, dirty diapers, who's to say you wouldn't be desperate enough to grab some Pampers and a carton of formula? Who could really blame them? There's no other way.

The neocon economic policies are heading for an iceburg.

14. I saw a segment last night of people rushing in and out of a
store and one woman ran out with three or four bags of pampers. Just pampers.

And I knew why they were running. It wasn't because the CNN camera was rolling.

Those grocery stores stink. No electricity (i.e refrigeration) and there is rotting meat in there.

People are DESPERATE to want to go in there.

13. I know if I was in that situation, I would be looting food, water,
clothes, battery-operated radio, batteries. Anything for survival.

What some people don't seem to realize is that there are 2 types of looters. One type is looting for the hell of it. The other type is looting for survival.

People act like looting NEVER happens in disasters.

clean water and food for our families, I think we should be quiet!

20. I can understand food, water and diapers....but it was possible to ...
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 07:12 AM by rasputin1952
purchase radios etc before. Even if lost, a radio is not essential, but if diapers, food and water are lost, there is a different story here. Personally, if I had to steal these items to ensure the safety and health of my child, when the store re-opened, I would make amends and pay for the items taken. Under this administration however, I would expect to be prosecuted, even though I tried to do the right thing...:(

24. You need a radio to find out what's going on,
Which roads are blocked, which ones you can cross to get out of New Orleans, when help will arrive, etc.

As far as buying one before the disaster, hindsight is 20/20.

23. I Really Don't Think...
...this is like other looting situations. These people were poor in the first place, & they have lost their homes. Who knows when they will get basic necessities? You have to get them *somewhere*. God, these Freepers have no compassion at all! No wonder our country is so screwed up!

25. "looting" is taking something of value
ALL the stuff taken in NO, ALL of it, is going to end up at the landfill. It is garbage, trash, refuse. It is NOT looting. Do they shoot people stealing from trash cans?

PAY for it? leave a dollar bill on the sunken register?

WTF there is no help in the city for these people, NONE! For the last 3 days they have been on their own. Of course they are going to loot and take what they need.
You have to anticipate that people are going to do what they need to do to get by.

Not like the fucking store can sell those pampers once they resume business, which won't be for months. Not like they repackage the shoes and water bottles and can goods.
Fuck the retail market, it's all insured anyway. Let them take what they need to feed their kids, get them dry, and take care of themselves until the federal government can get their act together to assist them.

It's not like our asshole president is doing a damn thing for them.
