"The worst case scenario...has happened."
Quote from the meteorologist on the Weather Channel this morning.

He's right, too. It just took a helluva lot longer for it to happen than it would have had Katrina maintained strength and not turned to the East.

1. Did New Orleans Catastrophe Have to Happen?
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 06:17 AM by jarnocan
"On June 8, 2004, Walter Maestri, emergency management chief for Jefferson Parish, Louisiana; told the Times-Picayune: “It appears that the money has been moved in the president’s budget to handle homeland security and the war in Iraq, and I suppose that’s the price we pay" "
In its budget, the Bush administration proposed a significant reduction in funding for southeast Louisiana's chief hurricane protection project. "

I am sure glad he cut his vacation by a day to save US!
He (conveniently) doesn't believe in global warming, but does believe in intellgent design! He is much worse than useless.

2. Have there been any reports about how much water came in
the city last night? The last time I spoke to someone there water had not made it over St. Charles Avenue in Uptown and everything South of St. Charles was dry. That was around 8:30 and shortly after the mayor announced that they could not fix the breech at 17th street canal.

4. And the tide moving in and out will hamper efforts to plug the holes
Water moving across the breach makes it more difficult to repair the breach.

This is very sad.
