1. I talked to someone
in baton rouge yesterday.
She said they were without electricity.
But she couldn't really say what was going on, because they weren't getting any information.

Sorry wish I could be of help to you.

3. Agree with others
other than the lack of electric (which BR is one of the first on the list), they don't have extensive flooding or dmg. They have tap water and sewage.

It is being used as a staging area for much of the rescue effort.

4. This from a friend who lives in East Baton Rouge Parish

Just checking in. Hurricane Katrina did not hit Baton Rouge as hard as New Orleans or the North Shore or Gulfport-Biloxi. We mostly had high winds and very little rain. No flooding. At the moment (9:44 p.m. CST, Tuesday, 08/30/05), I have no electricity and have not had it since Monday morning around 6:00 a.m. Power is sporadic throughout B.R. but coming back on gradually.

B.R. has become the first stop for emergency shelters and emergency medical. LSU is shut down for classes until next week and they are air-lifting the rescued from N.O. into there for treatment. B.R. River Center across the street from the KIDD is an emergency shelter.

From 2theadvocate.com:

BR airport open tonight; flights resume on Tuesday
From a press release from the BR Metro Airport
The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport is open and operational. Air carrier flights will resume on Tuesday, Aug. 30. Passengers are encouraged to contact individual airlines for accurate flight status. All flights remain cancelled tonight.
