New Orleans/Biloxi holds a message for Freepers
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 08:34 AM by Atman
Drain the water, level a few more houses, and you've got Iraq. Fallujah.

Does this help you visualize what we've done "over there" and why the claims of new schools being built and wonderful hapiness everywhere in Iraq, are just BushCo propaganda and lies? You've been gaping, slack-jawed, at the pictures on CNN, MSNBC and...oh, sorry...the pictures on Fox News. But BushCo never showed you the pictures of the total devastation done to places like Fallujah.

Now, imagine yourself sitting on one of those rooftops for even on stinking night. No power, not even the overhead ambient light of a distant town, or nearby street light, because all the power is gone. Just the pitch blackness, and you on a rooftop with hell encroaching all around you. Now, just imagine yourself there with the water gone, but still no electricity or running water or anything but total destruction. Can you even imagine it?

But Fallujah wasn't a natural disaster. It was completely man-made by PNAC and BushCo. Mother Nature is a mofo enough as it is, do we really need BushCo helping her destroy people's lives?

Look at those pictures again, Freepers, and imagine yourself going for even one freaking week without. Just a week. Or maybe even a few days. And imagine that it wasn't a massive storm that did it, but some jerk-off with a hard-on for revenge and oil. Think about it...and ask yourselves why there are "insurgents" in Iraq.

Can you? Will you? Naaaah. Sorry to waste your time.

(Edit - Changed subject line slightly for clarity)

2. Nominated.
WTG, Atman.

Iraqis have been living with sporadic power, sewer, fuel and water for 2 1/2 YEARS now.

What WOULD a freeper do? Throw flowers and dance in the streets, I suppose.

7. I wanna new beagle!
Great pic...I needed it! We lost the family beagle (actually a Lemon Beagle...white with blonde spots) a little over a year ago, to cancer. We haven't got a new dog yet, it's too hard. But man, that pic is a day brightener! Beagles rock.

Now, back to our regularly depressing programming.

I wish it were mine.
I've always wanted a beagle, but somehow ended up with a house full of JRTs and mini schnauzers (no complaints about either, but I still want a beagle.)

3. And furthermore....you people (Conservatives) need to lose your fantasy
that Bush has made your asses "safer."

Do you fully understand the implications of this hurricane without actually BEING there to experience the horror of sitting on a roof in the blazing heat and humidity...and YOUR PRESIDENT is coming off vacation, but headed to a fundraiser?

5. The HUMAN BEINGS in New Orleans and Biloxi
are currently going without food and water and are experiencing total devastation.

It's not always about politics.

19. Politics canceled the "Disaster Mitigation" program & sent their
National Guard with its equipment to Iraq. Want to figure out how many died who didn't have to because of those "political" decisions?

Politics is how we all deal with life. The BAD JUDGMENT OF GEORGE W. BUSH meant this whole thing was far worse than it had to be.

6. Excellent but remember
Remember, Freepers have remarkable powers of disassosciation. Just like they do with Iraq, they create the mental barrier and seperate people into a lower, less-deserving class. Sadly, they look at Iraq and New Orleans and say, "Thats sad, but they were *(insert your random racial/poverty insult here)*." It's a way of mitigating their responsibility as a human and as an American. They would rather buy cute little magnets that show how "American" they are.

Sad, but very true.

11. Sad but so so true
On another board, peppered with a mix of righties and lefties, the first right-wing response after the levee break was all about it is the fault of the residents who chose to live below sea level, and the fault of the Army Corp of Engineers for straightening out the Mississippi. Not one word of compassion for the people, just a diatribe about how it is all their own fault, and that Bush's inaction was just more griping from the left who wants government to solve all our problems. Standard play-book material. He couldn't envision the residents as "people," just idiots with the wrong zip code.

Thus is the Compassion of the Conservatives. Non-existent.

9. Denial
They'll deny global warming had anything to do with the intensity of the storm fed by ever warmer Gulf waters.

They'll deny the gulf is warmer because of greenhouse gases and that the oil industry has anything to do with global warming, resisting controls of global warming, and funding the current administration.

They'll deny Bush spent billions of homeland security but could have spent far less to shore New Orleans seawalls.

They'll deny the failure to preserve the wetlands around them and the suburban sprawl led to the severity of the flooding.

They'll deny there's any comparison between them taking federal money to rebuild their lives and the federal money they think is wasted on welfare and other Roosevelt programs.

Geography: Missippi is a river. Denial is a Republican state.

12. The wealthy freepers of New Orleans are fine.
They left the area, and they have plenty of money to rebuild. It is the poor who are suffering. Mostly black, and mostly democrats.

13. This thread is disgusting and shameful
I'm sure EVERYONE in NO was a freeper. You know, where they hold all those hot parties and accept gays so openly ... yep, a BIG Freep-a-thon.

Keep your politics out of these people's suffering.

I hated the morons who were talking politics right after the WTC came down on our heads. This is just as vile.

16. Atman's content seems to be talking to freeps *about* NOLA and Biloxi
not those who lost everything IN the disaster area.

He chose an unfortunate subject line, but the content of the post - if targeted at the wider freep population, not those who lost homes and family - is very good IMO.

DO NOT pile on this line of thought. That is NOT what my post was about in any way, shape or form. Blame the English language...There is a lesson, in New Orleans, for Freepers. NOT a lesson for Freepers living in New Orleans.

I changed the subject line to better reflect this. PLEASE don't derail a good thread with this linguistic nonsense.

22. You are incorrect. Politics cut the "Disaster Mitigation" program
and sent the Louisiana National Guard with its equipment to Iraq. Want to try to figure out how many lives those "political" decisions cost?

Their suffering is made worse by the BAD JUDGMENT OF GEORGE W. BUSH (who was holding an upside down child's story about a pet goat when he was told the United States was under attack).

Unfortunately, life is political. The people in charge of the money (currently Republicans) make decisions about how to spend it based on their values. See above for results.

20. Funny thing about safety nets... they always seem like a waste of
(taxpayers) money, until you need one. Funny, I haven't seen Grover Norquist on any of the yak shows talking about bloated, inefficient government waste... It's hard to think about budgets when you're pushing dead people aside so you can try to get to the dying people...
