Have they let cameras into the Superdome yet? |
|
We've seen photos before the hurricane but they seem to have made an effort to keep any video or photos of just how bad it is in there out. Granted, newspeople probably can't get in there at the moment but I was wondering if the reporters that were already inside (or did they already get out) have been able to get any new footage or shots out.

4. It seems to be our own "Detention Camp" like in Iraq where the citizens |
|
who might be trouble makers are kept under military watch and given their two MRE's a day with no latrines that are workable..
Williams must have left as soon as he could get out. The smell was too strong for him. (Sorry to be so cynical, but there aren't any photos an what little info there is...reminded me of Iraq with detention camps). :-(

I had the same thought, he'd of left or gotten out before the others did.
Then I thought, if they allowed it or swindled it some how.. there would be rioting over it.

Please don't be an ass. The problem, while real, is much more simple and less nafarious than that. It's just poor planning.
It was the best place to offer shelter to _large_ #'s of people who didn't have the means or brains to leave, or waited to long. Because they already had facilities there, and travel was so difficult, it became the de facto location to bring people that were rescued, and a place to encourage people to come.
That was fine when it looked like the worst was over and it was expected the pumps would get some of the water out and they could get transportation and supplies in within a couple days.
Then the situation went from bad to worse. The water level started rising instead of falling. Now they have far more people there than they planned and no way to get those numbers out. Unless you are really familiar with N.O. and the surrounding areas you just have no concept of how fucked the situation there is. And apparently lacking any real central organization or authority (not too surprising having lived in LA for many years), the situation is just going to get worse.

10. You make a good point.... |
|
But, some of us expected better organization given that folks knew that this would be the scenario of the Levee's were breached and NO filled up with water. It's impossible for everyone to leave a City..for many reasons.
But, I take your point....

Have you noticed that they're not talking about casualties anymore, just rescuing survivors.

But I'm assuming that there must be a few reporters just itching to get in there and report. Unless the NG are doing a good job at keeping the media out.

7. I have seen a few shots of the inside |
|
from Monday. Not sure if I saw any new footage from yesterday or just recycled stuff. I don't think the reportes can get a signal there and they now have to swim to get from the overpass or hotels to the dome. The last eyewitness report I heard was yesterday afternoon as the waters were rising a CNN(?) reported made the trek from the Hayat and treked back to phone in a report. She said conditions were pretty bad - the worst seemed to be that the PA was not on the generators and they didn't even have megaphones at first, so getting information to the people there is nearly impossible, which is adding to the tension.

11. I think they have cameras there, but how do they get data out? |
|
There is no electricity and it is surrounded by 3 feet of polluted water.
