Queen 'shocked' by hurricane damage
http://icnorthlondononline.icnetwork.co.uk/news/tm_objectid=15917142&method=full&siteid=50102&headline=queen--shocked--by-hurricane-damage-name_page.html

Aug 31 2005

The Queen has sent a message of sympathy to the United States and said she was "shocked and saddened" at the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Some 20 British tourists were among the thousands huddled in horrific conditions at a makeshift refugee camp in the New Orleans Superdome.

At a briefing at the Foreign Office, Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said there were no reports of any British deaths and that diplomats were "doing all that they can" to assist those in distress.

Conditions deteriorated by the hour in New Orleans where rescue teams struggled to deal with tens of thousands of refugees stranded without power and dwindling supplies of food and water.

10. True.
it's his job, not the Queen's job, to offer an aid package. She can offer moral support and make her voice strongly heard to Blair but he is the one who will offer aid.

11. That's the Prime Minister's role - but tell me why the UK should
fill in for your National Guard? Speaking as a Brit, I hope that the US will allow the UK to do something - but not something that allows President Bush to think that it is OK to neglect "homeland security" in favour of his military adventures in the Middle East because some other country will always cover his butt.

15. And have your beloved leader turn her down?
Murca don't need no help. Greatest country in the world isn't it?

By the way, what's Bush doing today to offer sympathy and support to the people devastated by this terrible event?
Thought so.

8. Er, of all people, the Queen does not need American money
And America is the richest country in the world. It is not Queen Elizabeth's fault that your President could not organise a whelk stall.

9. It would not look good if the Queen did more than your own oil barons
- let them lend their yachts to help evacuate their fellow countrymen and women.
