What can be done to help these people?!? This is terrible:

Subject: My Hurricane Story -- IMMEDIATE RESCUES NEEDED AT HOSPITAL

Story: MY FATHER IN LAW, DR. OSCAR BALLESTER, IS INSIDE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL AT 1415/1430 TULANE AVENUE IN DOWNTOWN AND HAS REQUESTED IMMEDIATE RESCUE EFFORTS DUE TO THE HOSPITAL BEING COMPLETELY NON-FUNCTIONAL.

HE STATES THAT THE REPORTS THAT THE HOSPITAL IS FUNCTIONING IN ANY CAPACITY ARE COMPLETELY WRONG, THAT ALTHOUGH CHARITY HOSPITAL MAY BE IN DESPERATE NEED OF HELP, THIS HOSPITAL IS LOSING PATIENTS BY THE MINUTE AND IS DESPERATE NEED OF HELP. LIVES CAN BE SAVED IF RESCUE EFFORTS ARE DIRECTED TO THIS ADDRESS.

FURTHERMORE, DR. BALLESTER VOLUNTARILY STAYED TO HELP THE PATIENTS, AND UNFORTUNATELY, HE CURRENTLY FINDS HIMSELF IN A LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION AS HE IS AN INSULIN DEPENDENT DIABETIC AND IS STARTING TO "GO DOWN." PLEASE LET ALL (RESCUERS, RED CROSS, THE CITY) KNOW THAT THEY NEED HELP.

THANK ALL AND MAY HEALTH AND HUMAN SPIRIT PREVAIL

11. University Hospital
I think my 94 yr old grandfather who must have oxygen 24 hrs was evacuated there from his hotel. I am worried, we have no contact with him, and the tour group that he was with dumped him there and then evacuated to Houston on a bus.

This totally sucks, he had travel tanks they should have taken him out of the city with them. If there is no power, I am afraid he will not make it long in the heat and without food or water.

Please pray for him and any others left behind.

what really sucks is that the tour group dumped him, they failed to evacutate him, and they can't even tell us where they took him, we have been trying to locate him for the last two days...

It is just chaos down there, there is no real way to communciate with anyone, I am hoping for the best, but beginning to fear the worst.

15. If by "University Hospital", they mean "Tulane Medical Center"...
I happen to know the Chief of Staff there. It is functioning and adequately staffed. They are in the process of evacuating all critical care patients to Lafayette and Alexandria (I think that was completed yesterday actually).

17. I got this e-mail about a family member who is a nurse at the
the Children's Hospital in New Orleans...

..... is still at her hospital. They will evacuate when it is their turn. They still have emergency power and food and water. They ran a new phone line in (8 miles she said) so she has been able to call us. She is very upset as her two cats are on the second floor of her townhouse and there is no way to get to them to rescue or even feed them. She said she left them enough food and water for 4 days. If the water is up to her second story, she has lost everything. She doesn't know how bad it is there but this is the worst flood ever so it doesn't look good. As soon as she is moved out of the area, ... and ..... will go get her but we do not know how long that will be. She said they had enough food and water for about 12 more days. Apparently a food truck re-supplies them as needed.
