For Charlotte-Area cube rats |
|
My parents live near Charlotte (by Lenoir/Boone), and my mom said the Mayor had a news conference a little while ago. She (mayor) said there si NO gas shortage, just people buying into the panic. To calm down. That it is a LIE that the pipelines supplying Charlotte are messed up. I repeat, she said this was false. She has made calls, and there will be plenty of gas by this weekend, but people need to not panic and take more than they need (ie hoard). Forty two gas stations are closed, but they should be reopening very soon. She also said they are investigating price gouging,a nd this will NOT be tolerated. My mom said she heard elsewhere that the mayor has called up Easley and is PISSED at his lack of leadership.
I live in Central VA and filled my car with diesel a while ago. They were out of everything but premium and diesel. And I paid $2,99 for diesel. Why were they out? I was told panic buying. It just feeds into it -- I just topped off my tank. Crazy.

nice to read something not panic stricken for once...
i just heard this from a coworker a few cubes down from me here in charlotte-land:
"...the gov of nc announced that no stations had received gas since sunday and didn't know when they would be getting more. that's a crock. several have gotten shipments overnight and i passed one this morning. but the damage was done and the media is freakin' everybody out."
so yeah i think this is panic that's rumor-induced... but still working at home today to conserve gas if possible - and because i can.
thank you for the update.

3. According to my mom, the mayor said something to the |
|
effect that Charlotte gets alot of gas NOT from either of those two pipelines, so there was NEVER a gas shortage, just a rumor-fueled panic.
