President Bush will stop in Mobile, Ala., on Friday, then take a helicopter tour of the Alabama and Mississippi coasts, Mr. McClellan said, and then be on the ground briefly in Mississippi. He will then take an aerial tour of New Orleans.

1. He knows he wouldn't last ten minutes on the ground (or
actually, on the water) in New Orleans.

Chicken is as chicken does, and chicken to the last.

His long-distance compassion and aerial presence will be so comforting!

He would be shot
I'm sure his own cowardice is a huge part of why he's not going, but I absolutely don't blame the Secret Service for undoubtedly saying, "he wouldn't make it out." These people are outraged. I don't blame them for being so and I don't wish Bush harm, but that's what would happen.

4. Maybe he'll go to St. Tammany's parish
He only wants to be around people who adore him.

This guy wouldn't meet with one petite woman who lost her son in Iraq. He's too much of a chickenhawk coward to meet with the common folk in New Orleans.

You can bet that if he thought it was safe enough to stand on a raft in New Orleans with a bullhorn, he would.

Jesus, it's like fucking Baghdad down there. Gunfire, rapes, looting, violence...

Plus, we can't possibly have a totally scripted, invitation-only crowd if our great leader decided to actually grow a fucking heart. We can't have our fearless savior looking like the piece of shit he is now can we?

One of his aids should realize that there are people still stranded either on their roof tops or on the road and the last person they probably want to see is President Pretzelhead.

25. I've taken to calling that piss poor excuse for a human being
exactly what he is: the sniveling, yellow coward.

He's just running true to course. I noticed in your original post Lynne you mentioned the fact that he will "be on the ground briefly in Mississippi".

Who wants to bet that arsehole Haley Barbour has the photo-op set up already?

I can only hope that the people responsible for this unbelievable clusterf*ck, will be made to pay and pay dearly.

26. Good - no public official should step into the area unless it's relevant
Sorry, a visit by ANY president in a time like this will not only be a security nightmare, it will force officials to divert resources from rescue and relief efforts, causing massive disruptions.

The president doesn't need to have a photo-op right now. And I'd say that if Kerry or Gore or Clinton were president too.

Now, perhaps he should visit shelters for evacuees, but no seeing the city until relief and rescue efforts are over and people are cleared out.

32. Here's an interesting paragraph, because of who it doesn't mention.
"During his news briefing, Mr. McClellan said the president met today with Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld; Gen. Richard B. Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, and Alan Greenspan, the chairman of the Federal Reserve. Mr. McClellan said the luncheon with Mr. Greenspan focused on effects of the disaster on the overall economy."

No Cheney? Maybe the rumors are true. Why else would the president miss this meeting, and send Bush in his place?
