5. Social security will be privatized tomorrow.
And if someone calls the admin on it the talking point will be:

"The last thing we need at a time like this is a big-government program that wastes money."

67. That's actually what I'm fearing - check out this pre-hurricane thread.
It will curl your toes. And except for the "military leaves cancelled after Sept 7" rumor - which does appear to be just an unsubstantiated rumor, what's there is fact. Just put the pieces together and you will see how dead-serious Cheney and the others in the cabal are about "regime change" in Iran:

Thread title: DU - All the pieces are on the board, folks....time to get worried.

There's a lot of incormation there in the posts and the many links.

69. FEMA is directing donations to Pat Robertson's own "charity," Operation
Blessing. Greg Palast has unconvered some amazing things about this operation - it's under criminal investigation in the state of Virginia.

But ole "Patwa" clearly has an inside track to get his outfit named as one of only three for Cash Donations on the FEMA donations page. The Red Cross is another.

You can read about it here in this thread about FEMA's outragaeous inclusion of Operation Blessing on its donation page. Here's my post there on Greg Palast's investigation:

I'm ready to run for President and I know exactly what I would do from defense to K12 education to farm-fresh food for every person at or below the 'poverty line.'

If you think I'm joking, just ask.

Oh, and my first priority would be term limits:

One six year term for President and VP.

No Vice President could run for President in a consecutive election (i.e., if you are a VP you have to wait six years to run for Pres).

Two six year terms for Senate. (never to return after two terms -- meaning the two terms do not need to be consecutive)

Three two year terms for HR. (never to return after three terms -- meaning the three terms do not need to be consecutive)

Much, much more. And, I'm 58, I know how to think, I'm not wealthy and I do not want to be. I've been married to one person for almost 35 years and the remainder of my personal life is NO ONE'S BUSINESS.

And, I would not allow any funds to be collected for my campaign by any organization and I would accept zero dollars from any corporation. The campaign would be entirely net based with absolute contributions limited to $25.00 US dollars per citizen.

Have Howard Dean give me a call -- I'm also an MD and have been a scientist for more than 30 years.

So, I have a clue regarding what the role of government in science, the absolute need to keep all matters Church and God out of both science and government and out of the personal relationship between a woman (and a man) and their physician regarding ALL MATTERS of their health and wellness.

Peace.

62. Wow, UL, that's a breathtaking commitment!! Talk about putting your life
on the line to make things better! Would you be running as a 3rd-party candidate, or has that not been settled? At a minimum, candidates do get a chance to get their views heard and move the public to see the truth and act for it. It's truly the American Way - the REAL American Way, not what we've been seeing from the gang of fascist criminals who have seized the White House and probably Congress by electoral fraud coup.

What's next?

68. "What's next?"
Let's let as many folk as possible ask all the hard questions. If my answers make sense, the effort will grow.

If not, it will sink -- as should always be the case. No spin; no intermediaries.

Just me answering the questions to the best of my ability.

I frequently will answer by suggesting that I will assemble groups of experts (international in scope) to participate in solving certain problems. That's what I have done through my professional career.

I realized long ago that I do not have the expertise for most issues I confront, thus, I've learned how to work effectively to identify the experts for particular issues and enable them to perform, maximally.

And, at some point, someone can call Howard Dean and see if he's interested. I am definitely not interested in fragmenting and think it much better to create a solid alternative within the Democratic Party (and would hope to inspire others to do the same within the Republican Party!!).

The point of this exercise is that, like Cindy Sheehan and many whom post here at DU, I am an American citizen. I believe citizens and not professional politicos should govern and I'm prepared to test the system and see if sufficient interest in having a citizen-driven Republic exists among the majority of our fellow Americans.

Peace.

solving sessions! It's what I did during my career as a scientist and I am damn good at learning the new information, making sense of it, and communicating about it. I'm good at building bridges between people of different professional backgrounds as well and encouraging/motivating them into enthusiasm.

The scope of this is thrilling! At a MINIMUM there would be dialog and fresh solutions proposed for the major problems that have brought us low and sapped the national spirit. These are needed so badly, and THIS CAN BE DONE.

Have you read the amazing book "Gaviotas: A Village To Reinvent The World"? It's about a village/think tank begun from nothing about 20 years ago on the plains of Colombia, a llittle village of engineers and can-do people of all kinds that has produced new life-saving and -supporting but universally affordable inventions and solutions. Meanwhile, the whole culture of that village, even the way the children played together, was uplifted away from violence and greed and what many believe is the dark side of human nature. Everyone said that what they were trying to do was impossible - it WAS impossible by all reasonable criteria - but breakthrough after breakthrough followed despite huge difficulties. And to this day (I last checked about 6 months ago) the residents of Gaviotas do not carry weapons, this in a country with extreme violence. It may seem unrelated, but I see a connection between what you are proposing and what is described in that book. The act of working together to make things better for all is galvanizing and inspiring, the best ride of all, the greatest thrill, bringing the best, deepest part of us to life. Then amazing things happen, rebirths happen.

80. "It may seem unrelated, but I see a connection ..." As well you should.
I have not read the book and am not aware of the civilization that has been created in Gaviotas -- but, I have every reason to believe those lessons and outcomes can be extended, broadly.

As you likely know from all I have posted here and at dKos since November 3, 2004, I am not flip. I made the statements I did, intentionally, and, intentionally in this particular thread.

I am interested in extending the discussion with you and the others who have responded -- within this wonderful and fully visible DU forum.

I state that because this is not about 'me,' it is about saving the Republic and I would give my fullest to any person who could carry the message and reclaim the White House for the Republic.

That said, if I'm not willing to put my self on the line, why should I expect or ask anyone else to do so.

How would you and others like to proceed? Do we turn this thread into a several 100 comment long discussion and then expand as bandwidth limitations require, or ??

Peace.

90. I've posted my initial response as a thread in GD here:

Thread title: NOW I SEE IT: THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND HOW WE MUST COUNTER

I'll also PM you with a link. I'm still thinking through a proto-draft of a plan of organization.

70. Every American child would know how to read, write and use a computer.
And, every American child would have access to both the computer and the internet -- every single one of them.

And, I'll happily provide details.

Same for the issue of bases.

Am going to have a bit of dinner and will be back in an hour or so.

Peace.

81. Yes, every single one of them and I know experts with the technology ...
... and the capability of delivering that technology to every single one of them.

And, they are motivated to do it -- strong public, private partnerships are ready to be formed and implemented.

All it takes is willing leadership and focus.

71. The G, B & U of term limitations.
Good.

It would serve to bring diversity of leadership.

Bad.

Good legislators would be exempt from continuing service.

Ugly.

One-termers would just loot the treasury, having no accountability to the public.

83. Yes. No. No.
It would bring diversity of leadership -- Yes.

Good legislators would be exempt from continuing service -- No. Two terms for Senate and three terms for HR and an explicit encouragement of broad citizen participation and mentoring by those who have done it, at the State and Federal level, could well expand the skills, insights and implementation expertise.

One-termers would be quite constrained from 'looting the treasury' because of the overlap in the Senate (i.e., three classes, separated by two year intervals of election/re-election) and the potential of three consecutive terms in the HR. My proposal brings exquisite pressure on performance metrics, including accountability, and would significantly eliminate long-standing (the kind that are inevitable with Senate and HR folk spending decades entrenched inside the Beltway) special interest relationships with corporations, private wealth-holders and their lobbyists.

You raise exactly the kinds of issues we need to discuss and do all we can to shape a more responsive, efficient, accountable system of legislation. Thank you.

Peace.

84. Please see comment # 80, fly. And, I am honored by your commitment ...
... and look forward to extending this discourse and determining what can be done that best serves every American, especially those most in need.

We need to cultivate a true respect for each life, as opposed to enabling and encouraging, for political and monetary gain, the commercial media and other special interests from exploiting the plight of the missing and the brain-dead, be they 'white women' or otherwise.

Peace.

76. RFK, Jr stated that 95% of Republicans and 75% of Democrats are corrupt
He has been around politicians a great deal all his life and he's in a position to know more than most people do. Here's the thread from January where his book was reported on here at DU:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x2999611
Thread title: RFK,Jr. says 95% of reps and 75% of dems are corrupt

Excerpt from a review of RFK Jr's book:

He quotes Hitler's propaganda chief Herman Goerring: "It is always simply a matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Kennedy then adds: "The White House has clearly grasped the lesson."

Kennedy also quotes Benito Mussolini's insight that "fascism should more appropriately be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power."

"The biggest threat to American democracy is corporate power," Kennedy told us. "There is vogue in the White House to talk about the threat of big government. But since the beginning of our national history, our most visionary political leaders have warned the American public against the domination of government by corporate power. That warning is missing in the national debate right now. Because so much corporate money is going into politics, the Democratic Party itself has dropped the ball. They just quash discussion about the corrosive impact of excessive corporate power on American democracy."

79. House Speaker Dennis Hastert: Rebuilding New Orleans "doesn't make sense"
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 11:51 PM by Nothing Without Hope
This is the sorry subject of this thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1744292

Ole Dennis is scheming on how to be the next president of the US, as you all know. He must believe that the majority of American voters - at least enough that election fraud could skew into a "victory" - would believe this to be a "brave and honest and true" statement.

Heaven help us all if he is right. We cannot accept it and must fight it.

His legislative body is the financing part of Congress. It's because of THEM that the levees were neglected. And it's because of the Feds' failure to SHOW THE F**K UP with the Black Hawk helicopters to patch the levee breaches that New Orleans was drowned. And then there's the Bush Administration's overseeing massive draining of thousands of acres of vital wetlands around New Orleans that have always served as flood buffers.

This needs to be publicized. He cannot be allowed to say this unopposed. I can't think of a word strong enough - "outrage" does not come NEAR to what I feel - to describe what this unspeakable subhuman soulless POS has dared to say.

AND IT SURE IS CONSISTENT THE APPARENT LACK OF ANY MOTIVATION OR CARING BY THE MEMBERS OF "OUR" CONGRESS.

87. He is obviously wrong and corrupt by making such statements.
The very act of rebuilding and nurturing New Orleans would be such a positive, creative and non-cynical response to a tragedy that largely happened because of arrogance, avarice and imperialistic adventures -- and those are the reasons why a neoconster sycophant like Hastert would be doing whatever he can to keep it from happening.

We will restore New Orleans and we will all benefit from what we learn from the experience.

Peace.
