Defeated by 20 feet of water |
|
From the excuses that I've heard Michael Chertoff and Michael Brown spurting on TV, they've pretty much admitted that they have been defeated by 20 to 30 feet of water. It doesn't take much to beat Homeland Security, does it? And the terrorists have televisions.

1. I'm gettin' that same vibe |

I mean, what have we learned since 9/11? The biggest hindrance to the whole rescue efforts is lack of a working communication system. I am not a rocket scientist, but shouldn't someone be working on some sort of communication system that is pretty much indestructable by disaster (falling buildings, cell towers etc,?). That and the fuel problem ( police, those left, are siphoning gas from abandoned vehicles to keep going). Is there really no way to float a boat with these supplies in? Zodiacs with fuel tanks? Radio phones? Can't we do a Churchill and ask for any citizens on the Texas shore or undamaged Florida shores to get over to the area and help ferry survivors and supplies?

2. I am not an expert either, but it's pretty clear that the federal response |
|
could and should have been much better. That it is not suggests that the government is not on top of things in terms of foresight, planning, listening to scientists, and just plain common sense. What a bunch of arrogant jerks.

But they're telling the scores of Ham Radio operators chomping at the bit to get IN there and HELP... "Wait until it's SAFE to go in, THEN we'll deploy you!
Never, in 35 years a Ham, have I EVER heard that. Shit, ususally, some of us LIVE at Ground Zero, but then, when they gave the bug-out order, WHO was the first to leave?
Lots of radio hams are old, rich, white and ReTHUGs...

one problem is, however, there is no communication system set up enough to get to the folks in the dome, hotels, the streets, whatever, to tell them what the hell is going on. Just imagining myself there, I'd assume it was damn near the end of the world, and I'd be in the 'take no prisoners' and become my own one person FEMA response team. Rumors fuel fear, fear fuels rumors.
