Anyone else hear Mayor Nagin today? Have a link?
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 10:37 PM by darkstar
On WJBO in Baton Rouge today, they cut to WWL TV feed of Nagin absolutely going off on the slow federal response. It was some of the most truly righteous stream of indignation I've ever hear from a politician in my life.

Anyone? I'd love to share the clip with some folks, even if only audio. Checked WWL already and no clip theree, I don't think....

Thanks in advance,

DS

1. I think that Nagin is the most courageous public official in all of this.
I too would like to see a link. He deserves more credit than any others that I can see.

4. That's because there's total lawlessness
Even the mayor has acknowledged that people can "loot" essentials, but its come to the point where armed gangs are causing massive panic and a total breakdown in law and order. Not only are they looting, but they have threatened the hospitals, including the children's hospital, fired at police officers, and are causing chaos.

This is becoming like Mogadishu. You can't save people if there's no law and order. Nobody is quarraling with people who are stealing food or clothing for their families, and there is a thin and fuzzy line between what is "acceptable" and what isn't. But basic law and order has to be established as far as possible.

3. Did you hear what he said?
My jaw flew open and I yelled. Stuff like "Don't want to see another Washington big whig hold another goddamn press conference telling us they undertand we are frustrated, they need to DO something of value" and "Somebody has to fly over before they can understand what's going on? They need to get off their asses and send down the help we need," and, "They say we didn't ask for help in a timely fashion. Did iraq ever ask for our help?"

5. Ray Nagin has replaced Rudy as "America's mayor"
not sure I agree with stopping the search and rescue, though. I have some experience with NOPD from clinic hits as well as Mardi Gras; it must have taken a HELL of a lot to get them to turn in their badges!!
