100 Dead after being rescued from roof tops
100 said dead in Chalmette Thursday, 9:46 p.m.

About 100 people have died at the Chalmette Slip after being pulled off their rooftops, waiting to be ferried up the river to the West Bank and bused out of the flood ravaged area, U.S. Rep. Charles Melancon, D-Napoleonville, said Thursday. About 1,500 people were at the slip on Thursday afternoon, where critical supplies like food and water are scarce, he said.

36. chalmatte slip
from http://www.stbernardport.com/arabiterminal.html

"The Arabi Terminal (a.k.a. Chalmette Slip) is located on the Mississippi River, mile marker 90.5, between the river and St. Bernard Highway (LA. Hwy 46). It is bounded by Chalmette National Historical Park on the East, and Domino Sugar Refinery on the West. (Latitude 29.55' N, Longitude 89.55" W --Time zone GMT-6 Hours). The Terminal consists of a 25 Acre Marine Terminal and a 100 acres business park."

It's in East N.O. - in the photo, I see several large warehouses - maybe they're being used as shelter and/or an evacuation point (docks for ferry landing)?

failure of the federal government to have so many people dying.

19. I'm waiting for the "dramatic dehydration death" cam to accompany
the "dramatic rooftop rescue" cam.

Utterly despicable. I was in Lower Manhattan on September 11, and I yield any horrors I saw that day to the horrors being faced by the people of the gulf shore states, and the beautiful people of New orleans in particular. This is a disgrace.

12. You figure Monday was probably the last glass of water. The temperature
has been around 90+. They were in the roof or on top of the roof. Either way they lost a lot of water. It's a shame. So close. Imagine what's going to happen with NO. 4 days now without water for a lot of them.

20. I think Katrina came through Sunday night, evacuees who got out
said they were up on the roof by about 3:00 in the morning so that would make today day 4, tomorrow, Friday is day 5. There should not have been a day 3.

26. This is blowback big time for Bush selling this country out for profits.
The incompetence of FEMA is not surprising considering who nominated the chief, his background (or lack of) and the cuts to emergency preparation. I hope people wake up because of this tragedy to the crimes that have been perpetrated on our citizens by these crooks and corporate whores.
