EVERY CHURCH between NOLA and Houston should open wide |
|
their doors, and their vestreys and take in as many survivors as they are able- Those buildings sit idle most of the time anyway- No 'conversions' necessiary- no prostlytizing... SHELTER- FOOD- SAFETY and rest. Come ON America... let's live this walk- or else hang your righteous heads in shame- These are our children, our brothers sisters, mothers fathers, daughters.... they are US-
Screw the faith based lingo- lets see the mega churches make REAL MERCIFUL use of 'gods' houses....
Or would that be asking too much? "Peter do your love me????"
FEED MY SHEEP-
The flock is in peril, and the worldly shepherd could give a shit.

But I agree that the church communites should do something and I have got a feeling that in some small way they will. Remember not everyone that goes to church is Bushie.

3. oh i DO know- i believe the majority of people who truly |
|
live a life of faith is anything BUT a 'bushie'- But busses are being turned away at the astrodome- we HAVE to settle these weary survivors into a place of peace and safety.- I'd work at getting churches here in NH to co-operate, but i fear we are too far away....
PLEASE those in the area- ask your local congregations to open their houses of worship- and their homes- IS this not what we are truly here for????????? The walk- not the talk??? screw the 'buzz words'-

5. All ready on it my friend I called my pastor at my episcopal church in IL |
|
We are trying to gather supplies and etc together but right now he says the best thing to do is to send Cash. Why chimpy doesn't have addresss where to send them goods or the means to get stuff to them. Btw I share your anger and frustration at the fundies.

And there is no doubt in my mind that this is what Jesus WOULD do!
There are many religious charities helping out... Opening their churches to victims would be a great idea.

9. Have you ever tried this?? |
|
Okay, in 1992, my grandmother was in a community that was spared the brunt of Andrew, but within close distance for the survivors. Her 200 population methodist church opened their doors - and their purses - for about 40 survivors, all that would fit in the chancel and the fellowship hall and the other spaces.
Within 10 days, they were out of money, the community was tapped out and they were begging the Red Cross for assistance.
A mega-church might be able (and should be, for remember Matthew 25 - what thou dost to the least of these, thou doest for me) to shelter more people for longer, but churches don't necessarily have deep pockets. Often, they're lucky to pay the mortgage, the minister's stipend and buy coffee and cookies for the fellowship hour.
I heard on NPr today that several of the churches are in exactly that position.

12. do they regret anything that they did?????? i sure as hell wouldn't |
|
And if in 10 days there isn't red cross help then i say we raid the white house and the new chef, and let them eat texas haught cuisine-
Lets see this 'faith' bush brags about start DOING-
i'd open my shabby home here to those who could get travel this far- i know my local community church would NEVER turn away anyone- but we are so far away... and i'm a single mom with pitiful income- but i'll give- without hesitation or strings- because we are ALL part of one another-
i don't have much- but i have an abundance when i see the folks in NOLA - and there but for a twist of fate am i-
i've never regretted a kindness done- i've OFTEN regretted a kindness left un-heeded.

13. There talking about the giant mega churches |
|
The kind that pull that justice sunday nonsense. Theyre are plenty of honorable mainline charites that do help out with less resources. There's good and bad with everything and I dont see anything wrong with seperating the chaff from the wheat.

10. I was thinking the same thing. |
|
We have two of these behemouths in my rural area. They are huge and they have all the facilities like bathrooms that refugees could use. They are carpeted so even if people had to lie on the floor it's not that uncomfortable. There is heating, lights and food facilities. However, there are also restaurants close by not to mention medical facilities and other stores. I am sure these churches could throw open their doors until these people can get their lives together.
