2. Actually,
I think the events in N.O. show there are always a few dogs who won't behave unless someone's watching them; but the vast majority of people appear to have behaved amazingly well under the circumstances.

5. ever seen a dog eat a dog?
i haven't- but i've know man to eat man- and man to kill for the 'fun' of it-
There is an epidemic of arrogance and bullism in this world- and it began (in earnest) in the year 2000.
Time for a change. We're begining to stink.

6. That's black and white thinking.
It's somewhere between a dog-eat-dog world and a...erm...dog-doesn't eat-dog world. The dog doesn't always eat the other dog. But sometimes he does.

Here's a poem I memorized a couple decades ago when I was into such things:

"I am His Highness' royal dog at Kew.
Pray, tell, sir, whose dog are you?"

Alexander Pope

7. Only when dehydration, semi-starvation etc cause irrationality....
Not so much dog-eat-dog as just irrational. It's easy to go situationally psychotic when you're up to your knees in shit, covered in organophosphates from the water (which are a known neuro-toxin; that's why they work against insects and are insecticides), haven't had a glass of water in a couple days, and haven't made even 300 calories in 24 hours.

I'd bet that a lot of the irrational behavior - including looting for non-useful prestige goods - stems from a combination of the above.

8. More a big dog eats little dog world
like the government consuming these poor people.

Living elsewhere, John, and having seen some big natural disasters where I live, I can say that what is going on in New Orleans is just unprecedented for a supposed first world country. I have never seen people treated so cavalierly before, except in Third World countries.

10. Man is an animal. Our humanity is merely an illusion of our own creation.
It is imperfect, feeble, and easily shattered. Once divided we become reactionary creatures of instinct. We'll turn on each other, ourselves, and even God. That's why God kept Adam out in his Garden as the King of Eden. He would not allow him to set foot in His house. He had already suffered through the betrayal of another of his magnificent creations. The Arch Angel Lucipher. He cast Adam and Eve down too. They had conspired against Him with Luchipher in His absence. But unlike Lucipher. God kept His faith in Man and Mankind. He simply asked that Mankind have faith in Him until He comes for us. He believes that man will redeem himself in His eyes.

After a NDE years ago. I can nolonger have faith in God. I know he exists. It is by His good graces that I am here today. Now my faith is reserved for Mankind. I too believe that we can redeem ourselves in his eyes. Let us carry a light into the darkness for Him. So the world may witness His glory in this our darkest hour.

Amen
