Why the turn? Why is the MSM finally asking tough questions? Could it be
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 12:50 AM by artemisia1
because they are realizing that IT COULD HAPPEN TO THEM and their families? Do ya think that might be a reason?

1. They are in the middle of the dead bodies.
They see it. They smell it. You can count on them turning around after this. They will no longer be part of the propaganda of the right wing. Not after this. They are mortified.

2. Probably only because it's fairly difficult to ignore....
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 12:50 AM by krkaufman
... corpses floating down a flooded street, tens of thousands of starving people living in squalor (x2!), and the combined stench of decaying flesh and feces.

edit: Don't worry, though. They'll move on shortly.

3. not bad. i can go there. maybe it's the footage. maybe the 1st hand
accounts from colleagues. but i totally think there's a disconnect between people who think it CAN and people who think it CAN'T happen to them.

wanna guess how this breaks out? hint: poor people know it always happens to them.

6.  I am not sure why they are all of a sudden asking questions or why
they haven't been asking the questions that could have prevented us from reaching this tragic point in our history. But one thing I know, there are no embedded reporters in NO and no off limit areas as far as I can tell.

8. They've been paid big to report what told to report
So they've been happy not to make waves. I've sat in amazement how they could all partake in the phoney baloney that was leaving our entire country vulnerable and at major risk. I always thought they were much smarter than me and knew what they were helping cover up massive crimes to jeopardize our country's entire future. After the past few days, though, I think they've been too close to get the full picture, and now the devastation of Katrina puts the whole picture into prospective real quick. They look real shook up like they never would've believed that this administration would have screwed up in a disaster this badly, allowing so much death and destruction to just keep happening needlessly.

16. If they don't go down after his cold hearted response over this,
I don't know what it would take.

Many have said it before and many will say it again, but the masses might ignore it again. I'll try anyhow.

Maybe they are tired of filming dead people walking. Honestly, many of these people won't be rescued. They'll either make it or not.

Are there any examples of hard-hitting actual journalism from that bastion of nutcakes?

22. Scarborough and Tucker both flipped tonight.
Look back a few pages, you can find the threads. They were both pretty mad from what I've read. Saw Scarborough, who was very mad, but missed Tucker.

17. They are seeing the dead close-up
And that can't help but affect them; look what's happening to Cooper Maserve and the guy on MSNBC at the convention center.

This is third-world stuff happening in the richest country on earth. this shouldn't be happening, but not only is it, it's clkear now that the administration doesn't give a damn if it does. Even idiots understand that.

18. No. It's because they had to confront poor policy up front
and because they realized they were in America seeing what they would expect in Nicaragua or some other third world country.

19. Did anyone see Keith Olbermann's show tonight??
I have never, never seen anything like it. An NBC photojournalist (unfortunately I don't remember his name) spoke for ten minutes on the horrors he's witnessed at the convention center--pleading for help for these thousands of people who've been left totally abandoned. There are good souls in journalism out there, it's just that we don't often see it, and they don't often get the chance to express themselves.

20. This cannot be hidden
It's right here, in our own back yard. It's not Iraq, they can move around pretty much as they want, and there's no security threat if they report something that the feds don't like.

24. My honest opinion
I think the public outrage at this failure is just to great to cover up. I think ROve and Cheney controlled the media in several ways, but one was by spinning public opinion against anyone who criticized Bush. Rather, for instance. Or Cindy Sheehan.

But the public can see what happens here. They want pictures, they want to understand. And what they are seeing angers them. The media doesn't have to worry about the public turning on them on this one. When they see clips of journalists near tears at the suffering, or even of journalists trying to rescue people rather than simply watching them, the public supports the media. So the media is free to tell the truth.

Even the conservative journalists and reporters don't really like Bush. I've been saying for years that when the people finally turn on Bush, it will be sudden and irretrievable. Bush is like one of those 3-D paintings. You stare at him a long while, and he looks like one thing, though vague and unfocused. Something doesn't seem right, but you can't quite figure it out. Then suddenly, the painting shifts and the true image pops out at you, and no matter how hard you try, you can never go back to not seeing the real picture.
