An idea for September 24th protest... March from Louisiana to DC?...
I don't know if there's time enough for this for us to plan this and have it be pragmatic... But perhaps there might be some way to have a bike ride (kind of like Iowa's RAGBRAI) or some other way to walk or ride on non-powered vehicles with hurricane victims to Washington. For all of those leaving New Orleans and other parts of the destruction down there, who have made it through that mess without needing to rest or get medical attention, perhaps some would be motivated if others joined them and we had a caravan of people, bikes, (and perhaps cars) that we all move together on a trip walking to DC from the south. Perhaps Cindy Sheehan can even join us with her road tour being a part of this. Perhaps this would send a message that people are simply FED UP with thihs administration and that something needs to be done about it. By us walking with them and feeding them, we do give them something to do, and a "place" to be (walking with us). And then they can have the choice of squatting in Washington DC after September 24th too, until Washington sees fit to do something about finding housing, etc. for them.

1. Ironically, before Katrina was even a storm, the "Peace Train" was going
from New Orleans to DC....I had been planning to go on it...

I've been too wrapped up the last several days in what's going on with the disaster to find out what the plans are now for the Peace train and where its to depart/originate now from.

2. Maybe if a lot of us could walk while NO residents "ride" with us...
... it would show our solidarity with them having no resources to move around, etc. and share their strife to make the point that this administration isn't just declaring war on NO residents, but declaring war on ALL of the people of America by being beholden to their corporate cronies! I had been planning to go up to L.A. for the protest there then. If I was on the east coast someplace I'd definitely think about being a part of this sort of thing.
