Who expected John Kerry or Bill Clinton or John Edwards or Howard Dean, etc. to show up in New Orleans at the Superdome and give those people some hope?

NYC Sending Troops, Aid As Conditions In New Orleans Remain Dire

National Guard troops from the New York City area are among those heading south to bolster the relief effort in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, which has devastated parts of Louisiana and Mississippi.

As many as 10,000 more National Guard troops from across the country are heading into the Gulf Coast region, bringing the total number to 28,000.

New York City is sending 1,000 troops.

And leading the efforts. I guess he's about the only one to step forward. Howard Dean is brilliant at speedy grassroots fund-raising. Edwards has made it his cause to end poverty. Clinton is the empath-in-chief. I'm disappointed, too...:-(

That's the way it's always been. There have always been disasters, but there have always been plans to deal with the disasters and those plans were executed. I've never seen a disaster where the aid and repair didn't happen immediately. This is unbelievable. This was no surprise. There's no excuse, no explanation.

Same here. To say that I am sick over it is an understatement. I can't tell the Dem leadership from the republican leadership anymore.

10. Honestly, I didn't.

The only heroes in America anymore are the un-named anonymous ordinary Americans who go the extra mile for their fellow man on a voluntary basis. I've seen a few of them in New Orleans, but I know there are many more out there I'm not seeing.

As for our elected and PAID officials, not a speck of hope from me that they would go above and beyond the scope of their job descriptions for us.

Sadly, however, anytime a politician or even a journalist does their job properly anymore it seems heroic to us. The media calling out the federal government on it's incompetance is what they're supposed to do within the frameworks of their very occupation. Similarly, politicians calling out this administration on it's various scandels is also what we ought to expect from them. But don't get me wrong, I'll take it when they do it. I'll even call them heroes too, if it helps encourage them.

any relief? Not one of them has the power 2 affect anything. They command nothing 2 coordinate relief. It sits squarely on the shoulders of the privileged one and he didn't disappoint. I was amazed @ how efficiently they have already dismantled government services tho. Gotta hand it 2 norquist - he's a one issue guy and he's not taking his eye off the prize.
