Where is Dick Cheney?
Whenever there's trouble, Cheney's instinctive reaction is to go into hiding. For example, he went missing for six months after September 11th. However, he seemed to have overcome his fear this year, making well-guarded appearances at $250 a plate fundraisers.
One might naturally conclude that Cheney's recent rabbit-like disappearance is motivated by concern for his own safety. However, that's not the case. Actually, the Vice President is still on vacation. But perhaps Cheney, a student of the balanced life like Bush, will volunteer to help out in New Orleans. Give the man a shotgun; he'll shoot looters. Note to Secret Service: Make sure the looters can't shoot back.

Sort of like Stalin and Lenin on display, but less waxy, and far less visible. His needly little possum teeth, however, are kept sharp with jeweler's files. Stalin and Lenin never had that much attention to their dental work, I'm sure.
I think Cheney's on a formaldehyde drip and they just re-animate the sorry SOB for public appearances.

When the going gets tough, the not-so-tough go to Wyoming. Courtesy of Fromkin, Washington Post:
Where's Cheney?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vice President Cheney, who has spent part of August at his home outside scenic Jackson, Wyo., remains there today -- although his spokeswoman, Lea Anne McBride, doesn't call it vacation.
"He's working from Wyoming today," McBride told me this morning.
So what is his day like in Jackson? Any fly-fishing on the Snake River during his work day?
"He's already had his morning briefings," McBride said. "He'll have some other internal staff meetings." Beyond that, McBride said, she would have to check and get back to me. I missed her call back but will try to reach her again.
And when is he coming back? "He will certainly be coming back. I'm not able to tell you the day right now. I don't have that handy."

14. It's hard work, tying to figure out a way to construe a hurricane... |

as an act of foreign aggression. Sure, this administration has been diligently attacking science and generally dumbing down America, but to say, out loud, that "Hugo Chavez sent a hurricane to kill Americans" still sounds crazy. It will take an enormous amount of spin to get this lead balloon aloft. But dammit, there's oil under Venezuela and using disaster to advance his agenda is what Cheney does best.
