WWL 870 AM Live Open Phones... |
|
Sorry folks, I don't think this is being streamed. Fortunately, WWL's 50,000 transmitter weathered the storm and booming its signal across the the country.
They have opened up the phone lines and the calls are incredible!
One lady from Hammond was in tears calling the city a "toilet boil" now and begged meeester boosh not to fly over the city, but get in a boat and come and meet with us.
One of the announcers read Hastert's insane comments that the city should be bulldozed (good going Coach)
Also, it was pointed out that all the donations we're sending to the Red Cross and other agencies aren't doing a bit of good until the GOVERNMENT gets help. Still sounds like a desperate situation and another hot day bekons.
Lots of support for Mayor Nagin from the locals and mixed reviews for Governor Blanco. However, it's the disgust for Washington and especially Commander Bunnypants is in everyone's call.

4. This Is Listening To A Different World |
|
I've heard hurricane aftermath reports, I've covered tornados...never have I heard the desperation I hear in these voices...not just desperation, but resignation. They're bracing for even more bad ahead. There's very little way to spin this positively.
I'm one district over from you...and have know Coach Denny since he took over from the late John Grotberg. I don't care if he thought this was his buddies at the Daily Herald...WTF was he thinking?
I just heard a caller from Mississippi...sounds like from the northern part of the state...said "I've always been a George Bush supporter until yesterday". Whoa!
Cheers...

2. Thanks for posting some details |

too bad there's no stream
I keep trying to add something else, but everything seems contrived and stupid.
All that popped into my head on reading about the lady from Hammond was "Honey, he wouldn't cross his front yard to speak to a woman whose son he killed; he's not gonna take a boat across a cesspool to speak to people who aren't Rangers." :sarcasm:
(or is that sarcasm? it's the truth, I guess maybe it's just poor taste?)

7. If You're Within 1,000 Of New Orleans... |

You should be able to hear the signal until sunrise on a good AM radio. Best place is to try is on a car radio.
At this hour, the station can be heard from almost Arizona up to Minnesota and across the east coast.

6. Bush voter calls in and says |

If this is an example of how Bush is going to protect us, what will happen if we have another terrorist attack. Something like that.

12. Lady Calling Still Trapped In Her Apartment |
|
Said she was in the Uptown area...she said she couldn't leave since she had an old car, a 72-year old brother and no money. She said she started with 6 gallons of water and was now down to her last 1/2 gallon (sharing it with the cat). Also, her windows were sealed so she couldn't open them up...only her front door, but couldn't do that with the gangs roaming the streets at night.
The hosts gave her directions on how to drive out of town and sounds like she's gonna try to make a run for it. She's got a full tank and $21 to her name.
Amazing how upbeat this lady sounded in light of all she's been through. That call was inspirational. Bless that lady and here's hoping she and her brother make it to safety.
