What is the Pope doing?
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 05:01 AM by votesomemore
Full disclosure: I am an atheist.

Most of the folks in NOLA and all of Louisiana are Catholic. That's why they have Parishes and not Counties, right?

I believe the Catholic church is derelict in it's role to protect humanity. If you're Catholic, I mean no personal offense. The policy of no birth control is diabolical. I read of a 29 year old woman in NOLA who had five children, ages 5-10. That's not 'family planning'. It is the Catholic church at work in people's personal lives.

Where is the Church now? Why do they do NOTHING to help the people they have encouraged to mass produce?

I am a compassionate person, really. This could offend some and I apologize for that.

All I'm saying is, bring on the Pope and get these innocent people some help.

2. Catholics are partially responsible
If you are Catholic and you don't oppose their policy, then you helped make this happen. Shame on you.

7. not sure of your point
No one is to blame here except a totally irresponsible lack of leadership and everyone who voted for him.

My point is what is the "Church" if not to support humanity? What else is the role? WHAT???????

15. LOL
So Catholics sit in their stupid pews and nod and smile while their heads are filled with lies and myths and that makes them responsible for Hurricane Katrina.

You sir know nothing about the Catholic faith.

The bigger point is LA is a CATHOLIC state. I lived there. It cannot be denied. But yet the Pope prays. Oh goodie.

17. Yes
that would be it. Bingo. Bigotry and intolerance aka Religion.

This is not a religion debate (I hope). Freedom of Religion and all that.

Please read the thread before jumping to conclusions.

9. This Pope and his actions
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 05:10 AM by fujiyama
are irrelevant.

And for that, he has no responsibility in the current mess. He wasn't the one that cut the funds for leeves in NO and sent the NG abroad.

There's plenty to criticize him over, but he has nothing to do with the incompetance and sheer evil of this administration.

14. Of course
But most of these people BELIEVE in Him! They are his followers.

The Vatican is in the top five of wealthy 'countries'. And they can't spare a dime to help BELIEVERS?

I put full blame on a reckless and dangerous US administration.

I'm talking about rescue here. Not cause.

We are not catholic, we are protestant. Do not slam families that have a lot of children and they are younger.

16. Applying to the State Department for Immunity from Prosecution
Lawyers for pope seek immunity in Texas sex abuse lawsuit naming Ratzinger as defendant

VATICAN CITY -- Lawyers for Pope Benedict XVI have asked U.S. President George W. Bush to declare the pontiff immune from liability in a lawsuit that accuses him of conspiring to cover up the molestation of three boys by a seminarian in Texas, court records show.

The Vatican's embassy in Washington sent a diplomatic memo to the State Department on May 20 requesting the U.S. government grant the pope immunity because he is a head of state, according to a May 26 motion submitted by the pope's lawyers in U.S. District Court for the Southern Division of Texas in Houston.

Joseph Ratzinger is named as a defendant in the civil lawsuit. Now Benedict XVI, he's accused of conspiring with the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to cover up the abuse during the mid-1990s. The suit is seeking unspecified monetary damages.
